Cobblestone Jazz- '23 Seconds'

Improvised techno trio Cobblestone Jazz announce a release date for their debut album. '23 Seconds' lands in October.

The Canadian trio of Mathew Jonson, Tyger Dhula and Danuel Tate originally shied away from committing their freestyle techno jams to the platter, preferring to restrict their real-time approach to the clubs. "For Cobblestone, performances have always been the focus," Jonson told RA last year.

But it seems theres been a change of heart. '23 Seconds' is a studio album, but it promises to continue their commitment to melding loose improv with techno tightness: everything is recorded straight to two-track tape with arrangements conceived on the fly. Some tracks, such as 'Slap the Back', were conceived, recorded and mixed down in less than an hour. Pay attention, Axl Rose.

'23 Seconds' includes nods to Detroit ('PBD), latest single Lime In Da Coconut as well as the trancetastic 'W', currently doing the rounds on Cocoon's 'Compilation G'. The album comes with a second disc featuring a live set recorded at Mondo in Madrid in May this year as well as 2006 snake-charmer 'India in Me' and dancefloor monster 'Dump Truck'. Think bubbling vocodered melodies, rolling synths and Jonson's trademark basslines.

This should be good.

Anyone got any samples anywhere?

Didn't know they had an album planned, great stuff! Would also appreciate to hear some samples if there are any flying about.

Excited to hear all of these - so obsessed with "W" right now it's not even funny.

I'd really love to get a chance to see the three of them play live together.

Just got it.

Faves include, 'W', 'PDB', and 'Change Your Apesuit'

Whole album is pretty ace though, will take a few more listens.

This album is fucking gorgeous - and the live mixes are amazing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really likes W. Cobblestone Jazz are among the most interesting producers to me right now. (Plus they hail from British Columbia, which is almost always good.) I would love to hear one of their live shows; the videos I've seen are impressive.

Planning to buy this as well, possibly on vinyl.

Love this album, has to be one of the favourites for 2007.

LOL, I bought this the other day not realizing it's their latest album for $4 at the local record store. I'm so fucking stoked that it is. Gonna blast it!

12" is a must on this one.

Finally had the chance to hear CD1 in full, and this may be my album of the year. I've got to give it a few more listens, and preferably hear the vinyl, but it's class from start to finish. Most importantly, it's fresh.

A bit overhyped this guy at the moment imo. There are some quality trax on this album like W, which i bought on 12" a while ago. Also Dump Track from last year was really huge, but I dont see the fuss in trax like 'Lime In A Coconut'.

I still have yet to hear it. Having high expectations for this one.

Put The Lime In Da Coconut is probably the weakest track, imo. It's the only one that doesn't fly by.
