cheap monitors worth it?
monitors such as berhinger and m audio for around 300 a pair? or up to 400. are they sooped up computer speakers or are they actually going to be semi decent?
anyone got any recommendations for someone on a budget purchasing monitors?
cheers!
From reading previous posts on the subject, I've narrowed my decision down to two: Alesis M1 MkII and Event TR6, unless someone wants to chime in otherwise of course! Going to guitar center next week, hopefully they'll have some on display to listen to (crosses fingers).
I'd like to tack a question on though (it is on topic): Any thoughts on the new Alesis M1 620 vs the older M1 MkII?
Actually the Behringer Truth Actives are the best value buy you can get. I've had the pleasure of using Mackies (not the new ones that just came out) and a pair of KRK RP6's and the Truth blow the KRK's out of the water and stand up very nicely against the mackies and for like half the price you can't beat it.
The only thing about them is that they have a slight curve on the low end but otherwised the freqency response is a respectable level of flatness and the sound overall is strong at low volumes, clear and great for production.
You should also check out Samson Rubicon R5/6A's at 200/240 a pair respectively.
Alesis MK II's!

go Tapco
Get the Behringer Truths or if you have the money you can pick up a set of Tapco Mackie S8's for around 280 on ebay new.
Id go for the Tapco's, better bass response and build quality.
HS80m get very good reviews on a few forums and musictech mag gave it a good review also.
Cheap @ 310 a pair in UK
I forgot to mention $300 AUD, which won't get me the behringer truth's.The truth's will cost me 499.00 AUD..
BUT I was looking at the truth's and they seem pretty good.
event alp5
so good for price
Behringers
Event TR6
Yamaha HS80M
I wouldn't touch anything else, personally.
anyone know anything about the TRUTH B2030P???
no idea but I have the Behringer 2031 actives (dont go passive with studio monitors, just not worth it imho) and they are entirely bomb for DJ'ing and production alike.
ok thanks
Don't go for the Passive's - save up for the active - you won't be disapointed.
Echosystem's list is good. Personally I think the Alesis m1 MKII are crap - shitty response on most frequencies. People seem to love them on TA but whenever I've done A/B either personally or for clients, they were never made the top five for that price. They sound rubbish compared to the 2031a, but then they are cheaper.
The Near05's are a joke in terms of quality - only worth buying if you have no budget and just want a (small) stage up from PC speakers.
Try to get second hand 2031a's - the build is quite solid and you shouldn't have a problem - which is unusual for Behringer....
MY first monitors were B2030A's and I was very impressed when i first got them. As i listened to them more and more, i started noticing ear fatigue. It got to the poing that i could not stand listening to them anymore, so i sold them. There is a spike in the tweeter's frequency responce. Unless Behringer fixed that problem, i would save for something better.
... are cheap monitors worth it? Let me try to think of a good analogy for you. Would a surgeon use cheap tools to operate on a patient? Would a Lotus automobile mechanic use anything second-rate? Obviously what you're looking for is QUALITY, and if you can't hear what sounds exist in your music there's no point in making any.
