i saw a dinosaur in a movie called jurasic park and it was eating people so if it happened in a movie it must be true

Haha, yep he's a moron. Everyone knows that all the dinosaurs in Eden were herbivores!

quote:
Originally, before sin, all animals, including the dinosaurs, were vegetarian. Genesis 1:30 states: And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth, which has life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.

This means that even T. rex, before sin entered the world, ate only plants. Some people object to this by pointing to the big teeth that a large T. rex had, insisting they must have been used for attacking animals. However, just because an animal has big sharp teeth does not mean it eats meat. It just means it has big sharp teeth.

Your colleague is a complete fucken spastic PKC. He needs a baseball bat to the head if he firmly believes that! I dunno how he can even argue that point.

Ask him, if we were living with the dinosaurs at the same time and we were supposedly eaten by them, how is it possible that they became extinct and we didn't?

but all the same!

True that but many of those species you speak of became extinct because of us.

I'm sure 65 million years ago we weren't killing dinosaurs and destroying their habitats!! According to his argument, they were eating us! What did we do to kill them off? Blow 8.6m poison darts through giant straws at them??? Build city's n shit around them?? Drive up in V8 utes and shoot them with a rocket launchers because they fucked up our wheat fields with giant footprints?

Did men ride around on brand new model t-rex's to pick up chicks? Don't think so, we just clubbed em and took em home!

This guy was obviously watching way too much Flinstones on acid!

oh christ (no pun intended).

the argument didnt go too far, SHE just stated, contradicting me, that "no, dinosaurs ate cavemen. they drew pictures of them in their caves."

i explained that there is a difference of only dozens of millions of years between our two species. not sure she believed me or not.

In Kansas it's part of the school curriculum that people living alongside dinosaurs is part of history along with some coverage of conventional evolution. I dunno about you, but as a little kid I would have been enthralled far more with the idea of people living next door too Barney the Dinosaur more than something dull like 'oh they died out long before people where around'
(That and the Flintstones where kind of cool)

Clarkson was right, they have started mating with vegetables instead of cousins in parts of the US.

As a kid I would have been pretty amped if they said that if I followed my dream to be an archaeologist I'd get to beat the everliving fuck out of Nazis.

I'm pretty happy now that they told the truth.

I have these debates all the time.

I actually don't mind people who have a reasonable argument behind thier statements of the world being around 6000 years old, dinosaurs lived with us etc.. I mean, if they do know what they are talking about, there are plenty of avenues to question why scientists have come up with a lot of the thoery that is prominent in thought surrounding the issue.

However, Ken Ham's (answers in genesis) argument is seriously flawed, not because its "christian", but because it ignores basic facts of science. In that quote also, just because the bible only mentions plants as food source DOES NOT imply that all creatures were herbivores. Photosynthetic material merely provides a transfer of energy into primary trophic levels, which sustains the entire terrestrial ecosystem.

I think its rather interesting how things like dragons and great mythological beasts are so prominent in most ancient cultures, and I've got a book or 2 on the "to read list" sometime soon.

reasonable arguments? ive never encountered one! carbon dating might not be perfect, but im yet to see any explanation that illustrates that the technique is a factor of millions out!

i dont know why its "interesting". i actually find it obvious, given that a lack of scientific knowledge has engendered all kinds of weird beliefs and imaginations...
