It is all my productions and it's a form of introducing an album as a mix. Every time you do an album and then you do the next one, people start to compare how the music is different, why you did it on this label and not that label, they try to define it, "the other album was better," "there's no hit like 'Easy Lee' on it" and so forth?it's exhausting, really. So I think you always have to find a new way to introduce your music and present yourself. I chose fabric because Judy has been asking me for 3 or 4 years now, but I've been so busy. And it's really stressful to do a DJ mix. So I figured it would be much easier to do a mix with my own music, and of course fabric is the perfect label for me to do this on. The nicest thing is no one will really be talking about how it's an album, it's all moving along very naturally - no big promotion or releasing tracks for radio two months before. I really prefer for it to be treated like a normal mix CD, with no hype. Sound-wise, the mix is going to be more housey than head-y. I'm more known for head-y, trippy music, so of course it is still very trippy and monotone, in the monotone way of delivering always the same tone and doing something to your brain. But it will be more dancey and housey and summery. I always think of the dancefloor when I create music, but not a vision of the actual dancefloor - it's always a vision of what's going to happen. Of course at a club like fabric or a couple clubs in Berlin, you have this already. But many other clubs, not so much - so it's a projection, a vision. And it's not one track after another after another, it develops very subtly.

I fail to understand why he had to butcher the Fabric series with what is essentially an artist album, though.. Afraid it might not sell as well otherwise?

i would think because he would want it to be timeless, and not a mix with tracks that every jock along with my grandma will be playing by the following week. And i hear dj mixes dont really make much for a label, they break even at best.

way to keep something timeless! good on him.

I have heard two of the tracks on this and it sounded rather nice.

There defiantely won't be a middle ground with this mix. It'll either be shite, or amazing. The worst or the best..

I'm not hugely into villalobos productions, especially of late. But lets hope this is good.

Yes, but why not make a 'series independent' (for lack of a better term) album out of it? As I said, it's essentially an artist album already..

Well, whatever. I might give this a listen, like chesco I'm not really into his productions but I'd like to give this a good listen nonetheless.

Its an artist album? wth? when was salvador released?

Posted by Ted Promo on Jul-28-2007 02:11:

Um, alright, don't quite know how to take this, but my interest has definitely been piqued. Let's see how this pans out!

Posted by wotyzoid on Jul-28-2007 03:32:

Yeh, I'm not a big fan of albums with more than 10 tracks...Salvador ftw!

the actual salvador release was put out by frisbee may 06..

NOTE:Compilation of tracks released between 1998 and 2001 on Frisbee Tracks, contains a remastered version of 'Belle Epoque'. Track 8 was originally released on Multicolor Recordings in 2002 and is marked as Bonustrack.

I think it's cool someone's taking a different approach to the fabric series. They almost never fail me and theres almost always the most forward thinking deejays' and artists putting out quality work, I expect this to be no different.

That is with the exceptions of Spank Rock and Luke Slater...wasn't a huge fan...

Posted by Semirk on Jul-28-2007 07:38:

It is good to see a compilation in this series where you don't know what to expect from the tracks, well at least I havent heard any of them anyway. Villalobos never fails to disappoint, should be a cracker.

This might need a rephrase.

True, meant to put impress obviously. I'm sure some would probably prefer the original statement though.

Only his tracks is a bit meh imo. He could have made something original and personnal with "normal" tracks. Balance 005 is timeless imo for instance.

fabric came to him 3-4 years ago to do something for them, let him do it how ever he wants.

Ill take a proper concept with his own productions (am i fan of his production work, most are not) over some regular mix whose tracks will be whored to death by every wanna-be dj, internet/bedroom dj, my grandmother, and every joe.

He has a striking resemblance to me when I'm out at clubs. That's why I'm currently grounded from them.
