Disappointing circumstance...how would you feel?

Just curious to know if you still support your favorite DJ after you met him and he was rude to you. We overheard someone talking about a DJ and how rude they were and it was a DJ we admire so it was a bit disappointing, nevertheless we don't believe everything we hear and if it didn't happen directly to us then it has no effect of our liking or disliking of a DJ.

I will tell you that on one occasion we met this pretty big DJ and he appeared to be a total dick, very rude wouldn't even sign our napkin. Then as the circumstances would have it we ended up chatting with him after the show and he actually was very nice and humble, completely different then he projected to be. DJs, it would seem have two personas, one when they are DJing and one when they are not, however I do feel that if someone is an arrogant and cocky person it will project onto there DJ persona. Also it can be a very chaotic enviornment and with not a lot of sleep that can bring out the worst in anyone.

Hm, that reminds me of an old episode of "Boy Meets World" when Cory is obsessed over some rockstar with big hair, and he meets him in real life, and the dude kicks him out of his room to make out with a chick.

He ends up tearing down all of the posters in his room and hates the singer. Then the credits roll by.

Hope that helps!

Thats a toughy. What you have to realize is that when a DJ is in his zone he's sorta on a power trip. Add that power trip with alcohol and drugs and then you are probably the last worry on his mind.

Some DJ's are just nicer than others. Some appreciate their fans more than others. Some probably just want to do their job and get out! (Especially when its dead or there is barely any energy from the crowd.)

Just try not to take it too personally. DJ's and artist need to worry about their safety. Anything can happen when they are encountering fans who may have had too much to drink, swallow or snort.

I don't think their personality factors in too much. Sure if they're a jerk it would be hard for me to appreciate them, but if he/she is throwing down great music then I don't think it really matters.

Like Mikey said, they have to deal with a lot of people on a nightly basis they can't be nice to everyone all the time. Maybe they had a crappy flight, or not enough sleep, or they're jet lagged, or hungover not hungover enough

Getting treated badly one the first meeting shouldn't really affect how you think about them permanently.

+1
Alot of actors are dicks but it still doesn't mean I can't appriciate there talent.

Bas was rude to me once. He's such a dick. I'll never go see him again

Posted by djjoshuaallen on Jul-29-2007 20:49:

i think the whole package of a Dj makes a big difference. Not only is JOOF a great DJ (one of my favs) but is prob the coolest one i have met that is on the global circuit.

other guys that are just jerks make it hard to ever want to go and support them. Like a guy named roger sanchez. Im sure he is great live, but since he is such an ass, i would never go to one of his shows.

It would definitely be hard for me to support a rude DJ. Sure, I could still appreciate his music, but I highly doubt I would pay money to see/support that DJ live. Downloading (for free) might be a different story though

power trips i hate djs with power trips i usually wont see them live but will listen to their music! CL is one cool dj tho

I know DJs who will be nice one time you meet them, and a bit rude the next. It really does just depend on their mood.

Remember, they are human in the end and everyone is moody. Everyone has their good times and bad times. And there could be man reasons why they are in the mood they are in.

Just because they were rude to you the one time you met them isn't enough to judge them, IMO. Some DJs are all over the place. You ask 1/2 of the peopel who meet him and they say he was nice. The other half will say he was just an ass.

Now if I meet a DJ a bunch of times and he's rude everytime, that's telling me something.

I havent really met any rude DJs. I've met some who are out of it, tired or management/promoter restricting fan interaction so thats understandable. I did get a bad vibe from Oakenfold though.

Spacey Orange, what do you mean? What mistake? I dont see anything wrong with admiring Djs.. What do you mean?

Any person with a career in entertainment with success directly related to appreciation from the public should (for their own good) at least respect the customers that pay their bills.

Respect doesn't mean you have to accept their invitation to their uncle's bbq that sunday, but a handshake and smile doesn't take much effort. Everyone has bad days but save your issues for after the event -- when you're at the club you're on the clock and it's part of your job to respect the patron or sponsor.

...my 2 cents

That's so funny that you say that, if you reread my post (that I had had accidently posted w/o finishing) my story was about him

Meet many Djs who are great: Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, Pier Bucci, Three, Berkson & What etc. and many who are dicks: Deep Dish, Bill Patrick, etc. It's like any Profession revolving around fans some of the people are friendly others are to cool for you. If you like there music you'll put up with it otherwise fuckem.

this is why i love dj dan/judge jules/mark farina/derrick carter/charles feelgood/axwell/Prydz/RHV/Irene/Ferry Corsten just to name a few...

EVERY TIME i met each DJ i mentioned they were nice humble and very appreciative towards us there fans...

I was disappointed though when i was talking to deep dish, sharam was happy to talk but dubfire was being kind of a dick

sasha took my last cig and didnt say thnx, but i still never miss a show

Posted by DaveT on Jul-30-2007 20:55:

Sasha also has TWO of my zippos from past gigs way back in the day. I want them back.

I worked hard providing my Drive License to get them from those people who go around and went to send you Marlboro stuff in the mail. :-p

Sasha wouldn't sign my CD but this was during his set so it wasn't the best time although he did sign others It really killed my friends vibe as she hates unfriendly people/DJs so we didn't stay until the end.

I've heard stuff about Armin but haven't experienced myself.

Ferry Corsten is seriously one of the nicest big name DJs. He has been very friendly and appreciates his fans every time I've seen him especially the last time at Virgin Megastore and when Taj and Dirty opened for him at Ruby Skye.

That's funny. Because if I were to make a list of DJs of who could be totally cool and laid back one time you meet him, and different later, even on the same night, they'd be near the top of the list.
