Paul van Dyk - Live @ Global Gathering 2007

I have been all over this set since Sunday morning, it was broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on Saturday night's Essential Mix, it's a 2 hour mix from Global Gathering, and there are a bunch of new tracks from "In Between" that we finally get to hear the full version played live. The set is all over torrent...anybody had a chance to listen yet?

It's a pretty awesome set, btw, Paul is now full in force using Ableton Live for everything, so he's got a full set of tricks he's implementing for building up tracks and transitions...

it's only like 15 days till the In Between Release (11 days if you live in Europe) - and it's interesting how under wraps alot of this stuff has been for awhile.

It's actually a decent set barring a few absolute shit tracks. Closing on Anthem being the operative shit track, but there were some others in there.

Yeah, I don't know which ones you are defining as "shit" - but I agree PVD has some tracks that he just keeps holding onto, he's probably played them 500 times in the past 6 months

haha operative shit track, well, at least its at the end! it sounds like this years global gathering was a success though

Posted by Brandon H. on Jul-31-2007 07:09:

The Wippenberg Remix of Needs to Feel is imo far worse than The Anthem

even with some gayass tracks the set is realy good

that was pretty much my opinion. great stuff on the whole but a few parts i had to fast-forward through.. considerate of him to leave anthem till the end, meant i could switch off early without missing anything

/edit - i see that last point has already been raised in this thread at least twice. i = the suck

i'd estimate he's played the stadium mix of independance in ~50% of his sets for the past 8 years

Pretty good set - although I am prefering the 30min broadcast from Dance Valley the other day, very good mix, anyone got a full tracklist from the entire set ?

Posted by chrisday on Jul-31-2007 16:25:

Great set. Although I'm not a big fan of anthem, and i'm guessing some of you arent on here... but, there is no denying its great at the end of a storming set and to bring the atmosphere to a peak. Hug the person next to you moment! ha.

What were everyone favourite tracks? What were the ones that people were bad? Intrigued....

I really enjoyed Tom Colontonio Rounder and didn't think there was anything that stood out as bad..

lol it really isn't, more of a "stop dancing, sigh heavily & move towards the exit" moment.. you had FAA right before it for the love & hugs moment

as for standout tracks, i really liked 'far away'.. MUCH better than the other giuseppe collaboration on the album. onova - platitude, was another lovely melodic trancer that i remember.. quite ASOTesque but with a really strong theme that made it stand out for me. there were other less melodic ones i remember liking but i can't recall them at the minute, i'll have to listen again at another point.

anthem aside there was another horrid male-vocal track just past the hour mark that made me cringe

I like this set pretty much. Nice tracks

Posted by WardC on Jul-31-2007 17:21:

It was nice to hear "Far Away" played at full-length - got to finally hear basically the full running version of the track played live...also It was good to hear "New York City" , "Get Back" , and "Castaway"

Some other tracks that were really nice to hear (worth noting) were "Onova - Platitude" and "Above & Beyond pres. Tranquility Base - Oceanic (Super8 & Tab Remix)"

Agreed - PVD has been playing Jonesy - Independance for wayyy to long, and "Thomas Bronzwaer - Constellation", it's getting old...and I am also getting a bit sick of Born Slippy, it was OK at first when PVD had done the remix and started playing it live, but now it's just OLD - he tends to throw this down at almost every show, and the track has no appeal to me, it's just old hat...

But overall, a bunch of fresh new stuff in this set, alot of new stuff, it's definately one of the "fresher" sets track/selection-wise - I think since the Love from Above show in Berlin about a month ago, PVD is now playing all of the "In Between" tunes in his sets now...but this was the first broadcasted liveset that's been available to hear some of these new tunes.

link anybody? i can't find it ;( and i think i am the only person on earth besides pvd and wippenberg that likes the wippenberg remix to needs to feel lol

Try Torrenspy.com, mininova.org, or torrentreactor.to - search for "Paul van Dyk" and it should be the first torrent that comes up.

Hope this helps - it should be easy to find, and the set is widely out there - or you can get it on BBC radio1 website till the end of the week - the "this is legal" link :-) -

His album is really shaping up to be a belter. I really enjoyed all his new productions on this set. I just hope I don't overplay them by the time the album is finally released!

Posted by Tom Colontonio on Jul-31-2007 22:45:

I enjoyed this set as well....Its been rippin in my car for a few days now

Posted by gizzymcg on Jul-31-2007 23:21:

I just wish i could hear a PVD set or go to see him when he didnt play all the usual towards the end. For An Angel etc etc etc that weve all heard so many times. Surely there are tunes out there he could play instead?

There are a few great tracks the big stand out being Far Away of course. But that Seven Nation Army vs Born Slippy thing is just shite and dont get me started on the Anthem again

Posted by RebeL9 on Jul-31-2007 23:31:

yeah I agree. too much junk in the tracklist. ://///

Posted by pvdAngel on Jul-31-2007 23:42:

I've not heard the set and I'm not even going to bother. I've grown out a lot of modern dance music recently. I'll still admire him as an artist though and will look forward to his new album...with the exception of that one song...

Will listen to! Thanks PVDAngel
