Danny Boyle's Sunshine

quote:
It is 2057, and the Sun is failing, causing the Earth to enter an ice age. A spacecraft, the Icarus II, with a crew of eight, is launched as a last hope,[2] carrying a massive bomb with a thermonuclear payload equivalent to the mass of Manhattan in order to re-ignite the Sun. Seven years prior, a similar ship, Icarus I, was launched for the same mission, but contact was lost.[3] Since all of the Earth's nuclear fissile materials have been mined for the two Icarus ships, the future of life on Earth is doomed if the mission fails.

Nope, definitely not as shitty as The Core.
Oh dear, a movie that rivals Primer in quality entertaining science fiction? While the movie has a stupid useless portion at the end (the murder thriller), the rest of the movie is absolutely beautiful with beautiful characters, character interaction and stunning shots of space. My favorite being the shot of Mercury cross in their path, accompanied by wonderful ambient music.

I was reading the the mass of the bomb was so huge that it created it's own "artificial gravity", and then that everyone on the spaceship was simply walking perpendicular to the bomb's mass. neat i guess

and now a spoiler question (omega_m, help?):
when the bomb goes off inside the sun, the collapse of the sun happens so fast (event horizon?) that time appears to have slowed to a complete crawl around him...........right?

I liked the scene where they were fighting to get the captain to come back into the ship before he died. Not 5 minutes before, they were talking about the risk/benefits of giving their own lives to save the universe.

and just a funny quote i read on somethingawful about this film:
quote:
I saw this a couple of nights ago and when the credits started rolling the film reel melted and burned out. As soon as this happened everyone in the theater just looked around and thought it was some sort of Haha-this-movie-had-lots-of-fire gimmick. We waited around for like five minutes but the credits never continued to roll.

yeah, it's been out in the States since July 20. I didn't even know until a couple of days ago. I never heard any promos for it.
