i don't t think you buying mp3s from someone is really any different then you downloading them off a p2p at this point (since your payment will not reach the artist).

Your point is invalid. Buying a vinyl record second hand (which is the same thing) means no more money goes to the artist/producer, and that is entirely legal.

If they seller were to destroy his copy of the MP3 once it had been sold then as far as i can see this makes it totally legal. Although I appreciate that the chances of anyone doing that are extremely limited. I wouldn't.

his point is completely valid!

why would anyone in their right mind delete the whole of their mp3 collection to give it to you for a fraction of the price??

they wouldnt! they would just sell you a copy and keep their copy's.
like he says, you might as well just get them from a p2p if you cant be arsed starting your own collection

it's difficult to find good quality MP3s on p2p.

Which is precisely the point I clarified I understood in my last sentence - please re-read....

And the point he was making was that second hand MP3 sales mean no money makes it to the artist, and I argued that the same can be said for the absolutely legal reselling of a CD/record or other form of literal media.

I'm reasonably confident that given the right legal documentation to sign over the MP3s ownership rights and proof that the seller no longer held a copy - this could be done legally...... but I admit I'm nitpicking and I understand the realities of such activity, I'm just throwing in some points to consider.

I rarely struggle. Yes i admit I download stuff on P2P but only if I cannot find it available elsewhere, or Beatport gives me a territory restriction.

how much you got to spend

Posted by lawrenceq on Aug-05-2007 22:23:

don't be lazy, learn to develop your own taste in trance, dont just bunk a collection that someone else put together to spin. its well worth taking the time to search through beatport and find out what YOU like to listen to and what sounds good to your ears and personal taste. listen to a few episodes of ASOT or trance around the world or whatever shows are hot right now. or even p2p download some recent live sets and listen out for particular tracks that grab ur attention and buy them. beatport is the way to go for buying them.

what you think im doing for 6 years, finally i decide that i want to spin the music that i like.

Posted by i got big pants on Aug-05-2007 23:19:

if you have finally decided to spin what you like, shouldnt you have also made the decision to take the time out and find songs yourself?

im sure a lot of people on here have spent countless hours hunting down that rare piece of vinyl or mp3 that they have. i know i have. but thats the fun of it. its just like saving up for your equipment...once you have the $$$ to splurge, it feels that much better

well, what are you looking for? I have a humble collection of about 600 tunes. It would take me hours to list them all here

Posted by lawrenceq on Aug-06-2007 03:50:

the quality on beatport is 320 which is perfect, you can even buy WAV but u have to pay WAV handling charges so its a bit extra. if uve been into trance a good 6 years, how can you not already have a tracklist or have an idea of what to come across? its so much more rewarding coming across tracks yourself instead of buying some random's several hundred long tracklist. try going through 600 songs and picking out ones you like, its not happening.
