Rane TTM 57SL vs. Pioneer mixer & Serato Software

Anyone used the Rane TTM 57SL?
How does it compare to using a different mixer and purchasing the Serato setup software separately?

I have 2 CDJ MK3's and a DJM 600 mixer, and am sort of getting tired of burning cd's on my laptop. It'd be nice to be able to have my entire mp3 library available at the touch of a button. How accurately does Serato work with the CDJ's?

Any input greatly appreciated, thanks!

I can't answer all you questions, but i can answer the last one. Serato and CDJ's is the shit. I use my serato w/cdj800 mk2's and can easliy hold mixes for ever.

Does the USB box that comes with Serato work as a soundcard as well? I just ordered a soundcard with line-in so I can record my mixes. Would this have worked as the same with the line-in ports?

The serato box can only work as an asio soundcard but not direct sound.

You can't use it for your everyday windows apps but most audio apps will support asio drivers. If your using the serato box to do the mix you wont be able to use it for recording at the same time.

In regards to getting a mixer with built in or getting the sl box by itself I would recommend getting standalone Serato incase you ever decide to upgrade your mixer.

this is why i'd suggest getting a separate box as well.

i've used the TTM57SL a few times and pretty much, it's the shit. if you like the TTM56 you'll like the 57SL. sounds great, feels nice, my only problem with it is that it's only 2 channel. the fact that you get a mixer with serato built-in makes the pricetag worth it, imo.

the buttons on the mixer for serato makes navigation a breeze without having to click around too much with your mouse. worthwhile investment, imo. i think my buddy got it for aroun $1000.

as for serato usage- i like it and if i had the money i would invest in it. works well with CDJs, the only thing i don't like is the fact that you have to rewind the timecoded cd occasionally when you're about to load your next song. of course you can't really help that, it's just how serato works, but it confused me for a while when i first used it.

Here's one thing to consider. Are you playing at clubs? If you are, than you'll most likely want to stick to the SSL Box and a DJM 800 mixer. Why? Because hardly any clubs have a 57 installed. If you buy the 57 it don't come with an extra box. So when you show up to a club without a 57, you're shit out of luck. You can use the 57 as a serato box, but it's a pain and it defeats the purpose.

After reading the above posts I'm going to go ahead and go with separate Serato.
I'm currently using a DJM 600, which seems to work pretty well. I can't decide if I should upgrade to the 800 or not. Any pros and cons of the 600 in comparison to the 800? I don't play in clubs at the moment- but just curious as to what makes the 800 the club standard?

I wouldn't call the DJM-800 a "club standard". It's common, but no more common than the Xone 92 or even the older DJM-600. Around here you are more likely to find an install mixer like a Rane or Urei or what not.

The DJM-800 is worlds better in terms of sound quality than the DJM-600. The build is also better, and they added some more cheesy effects. The DJM-800 is fully 24/96 digital, so it has a very clean signal path (though some say "cold").

It's really quite a bit more mixer then the 600, but functionality wise is pretty similar.
