In Silicon Valley, Millionaires Who Don't Feel Rich

An article on the millionaires of silicon valley. Most of them tend not to splurge their money. Many think their earnings are peanuts compared to their neighbors who earn in the 10s of millions. These guys still work hard putting in 60-70 hrs per week.

In Silicon Valley, Millionaires Who Dont Feel Rich

I would love to end up in a similar situation

i meet people all the time who make around $5 a day and struggle to feed their kids (yet consider themselves lucky compared to some) here in Ecuador so i find those whingers in silicon valley pretty fucking disgusting

Thats the truth. Thats where I work and its just expected of you to put in those long hours even on the weekend if need be. Its not unusual to get off work at 7 or 8pm. When all your coworkers are working those hours its hard to be the only one that doesn't. And most of the time you don't get overtime pay

Its crazy expensive to live out here. If I were one of those guys I'd cash out soon as I hit a couple million and move to a cheaper area to live off it. There are plenty good areas where you could retire on a couple million. I don't see the sense in killing yourself to live in an area where thats just chicken scratch

this is not a new concept, measurement of wealth has always been done in comparison to your peers and neighbours. we should all feel very wealthy in the west compared to the income the majority of the world survives on, yet we all want more.

The disease is called, "Keeping up with the Joneses".

There's nothing wrong with making a decent dollar but a lot of people have no idea how to rationalize the cost on their mind/body.

Probably why so many people over there snap and become flower children....(j/k)

...when enemas become the norm, there's got to be an issue somewhere lol

yes, that is true. But what makes this special is that these people belong to the top 1% income bracket in the US.

And still they don't think they are rich enough.

yeah i read that article in the paper. i guess what makes them keep working so hard in spite of having all that money in the bank is the fact that most, if not all of them, have children that they want to put through college, which we all know is really expensive these days, and at the same time they wanna save up enough for retirement. an of course theres the "keeping up with the joneses" factor that has already been mentioned.

personally i dont believe in making good money if you're not able to enjoy it, so if i had that kind of money, i'd definitely move some place alot cheaper
