Alright. Who plays Texas Hold'em here?

Since I've been doing dick all at home right now, been playing a lot of online hold'em at Pokerstars.

Been playing on and off for last 2 years, but playing a lot last few months online

Surely there's got to be lots of hold'em players here...

I used to play quite a bit, then I got a conscience about taking money from some of my friends who clearly had gambling problems.

Well I used to play on Pokerstars, but not for money, just as a hobby when I was bored. Played it on and off for about 2 years.

Can be fun

You can sooth your conscience by thinking your friends money can feed your drinking problems

I play 2 or 3 times a week in a local league.

It's not poker unless the other guy is physically in front of you and he has something real to lose (even if it's just a potential price like a bar tab). Online poker is not real poker. The dynamics of the game are completely different.

Unfortunately, most of these friends also had drinking and/or drug problems I needed to allow them to address as well

Anything less would have just been rude.

i play, used to play a lot more than i do presently. had a problem with no limit so i stick to $3-6 limit now. and i agree with whoever said that online poker and live games are COMPLETELY different. casino cash games and your average home games are way different too. :shrugs:

another 'used to.'

in HS, we used to play for 3-4 hours every night. a couple years later, picked it back up & spent a ton of time on UB for about 6 months to a year, then found some other obsession.

Posted by Inertia on Aug-08-2007 23:31:

i'm on and off with poker.com

play at my friends house during our poker nights every month or so. but it's more of an excuse to get together and fool around and drink than it is to seriously play poker.

ive been playing for about 3 years now, but never really had the urge to play online until a couple months ago until my friend gary started teaching me more about the game. he's one of my good friends and is also one of the top nl hold'em players on the internet right now. its amazing how good he can do in those huge online tournaments

Online poker is good for learning the basics and figuring out the odds.

But yeah. You gotta learn how to read a person to be a real poker player

2600 magazine has had articles on hacking/cheating at online poker. I've never read them, I don't have a 'poker face/avatar'

I used to know a few people who did it, but it seemed like an awful lot of work & risk to me.

I play at Full Tilt and Pokerstars a few times a week. Love the game. I was actually having a discussion with a friend a few days ago about the bills trying to get passed to make poker completely legal. IMO poker is not 100% gambling and involves alot more to it then just taking a risk. Hence why it should be recognized and not degraded to some cheap money game.

i find it easier in a casino, but I dont have a bank roll right now or time to play. Online poker IS poker, its just a different style.

live cash games only

i have never done the online thing,
but have played quite a few hands for some money while on the road with my co-workers.

67% live skill, 33% luck of the draw, in my opinion.

I used to play it all the time in high school with friends. Now we just get together once in a while and play.

Posted by tubularbills on Aug-09-2007 01:15:

played it in college a little, and when i was TDY. now that i'm on a diff schedule than everyone, its hard to get around to play it. i prefer w/ real people vs online.
