get a hotplate!

Depends. Macs are typically more expensive for what you get and nowadays they use the same processors as PCs. I think your better off with a PC, due to the wide availability of software. You can get Windows for Mac, but it's not as stable as Windows on a PC. For school, you probably will want Microsoft Word.

If you needed to say print out something on a school computer from your laptop, you would need Microsoft Windows and a CD burner. You can get a decent laptop for around $499 or $599 (or however it would be in Canadian) from Toshiba, Dell, Gateway or HP.

A Dual Core laptop might cost a little more, but for basic stuff..you really don't need one. Macs are basically just known as more stable..have less problems and viruses, but they aren't as perfect or immune as Mac fans make them out to be.

That's more a Windows problem than a Mac problem

dude, I don't eeeeven wanna know. Unless you can explain in a connect-the-dots format, which would be superawesometangotomcruisejeans fun.

no intentions of being rude, but i think buying a Mac and install Windows is a waste of time for a person who uses the computer just to type term papers and browse the internet. you can buy a regular pc laptop with almost the same specifications as a macbook, get it almost 40% cheaper, and you won't see a significant performance difference.

it also depends on your major in college, of course. if you're a graphics person, then mac it is. otherwise, get the vaio. i have a vaio right now, and i love it. it's light, the keyboard structure is very nice, and it has a classy exterior touch to it, compared to the others in the pc market (toshiba, compaq, dell, hp, acer, etc ...).

however, what you can do is save your term papers as .rtf (Rich Text Format), and it can be easily opened in both Mac and Windows OS (high school knowledge information there. lol)

i think it's a bit of both problems. it's basically trying to fit the 3X3 block inside the 2X2 block hole. you can force it in by trying to jam it, or you can be inventive by taking a saw, and make the block hole a little bigger to fit the block, however, you don't know the consequences in making the hole bigger.

I know people who have thinkpads and get blue screens the first day on their T60Ps... Error messages are not always the hardware's fault.

btw, go with the mac book pro.

No, but I'm lolling now.

Posted by Sunsnail on Aug-11-2007 20:44:

I thought the whole point of buying a mac was to get the OS. If thats not the case then normal PCs destroy macs price vs. performance.

School computers have internet access. Why would you want to spend extra money on CDs to burn off for a couple of projects when you can just e-mail the necessary documents to yourself and access them that way?
