Dunno Live-Action Role-Playing Games are weird

A great friend of mine (who happens to live 3500 km away from here) was visiting Brasilia and looking for something interesting to do. I had no plans, and I could only think of staying at home drinking and chatting away. His sister then dropped by on her way to a Live-Action Role-Playing Game and invited us to join her. I knew how bizarre these games tend to be, but my friend missed his sister and he had no idea of what was about to happen. Sincerely, neither had I.

She took us to some Wicca Village, where the other players were waiting for us. They then asked us what clan we'd like to join and explained how the game works. We were both confused but, what the hell, when in Rome do as Romans do.

The players (all dressed up as vampires) suddenly started playing rock-paper-scissors furiously, amid passionate declarations of earned (or lost) hit points, while some guy claimed everyone had to pay attention to what he was saying (he was the director or something). My friend and I were puzzled by all that and eventually left the room. However, we couldn't come back home, as it was his sister that drove us there (and there were no buses around). We then waited, chatting away (as we'd do at home), but without drinking anything.

It's 7 AM now and I've just got home. I don't know what the point of this thread is, I guess I just had to share my puzzlement with you guys. I'm off to bed...

is this stuff like that "lighting bolt" video?

if its any consolation, at least they are interacting w/ people on a face to face level. my roommate, who leaves today...finally, spent over 8 hrs STRAIGHT playing warcraft on the computer online, and it must have been like 10+ hrs total during the entire day yesterday.

Wouldn't wow geeks make good roomates? Except for 2 meals a day and the occasional bathroom break you could pretty much pretend they don't exist.

Kind of (there was a link to it in the first paragraph, actually ). The difference was the "rock, paper, scissors" frenzy, which was simply called "poe" there. It was hilarious, and I accidentally lol'd when I saw 7 or more people throwing their hands in the air, at the same time, playing a collective jankenpo round...

Anyway, instead of throwing "lightning bolts" at each other, they would get close to one another (or the director would tell them to) and they would say something like "Lightning bolt, I choose you!" and play "rock, paper, scissors" in order to know how the attack went.

But, yeah, thanks for the consolation, I guess you're right

Not really. The only reason why I went with my friend is because he is really a very good friend of mine.

i thought people grew out of that like at about seven.

I've seen these kind of people on Reno 911.

I've read that hitting someone on the head just enough to knock them unconscious can have the ability of reversing someone's psychological issues.
