My job already has it blocked!

Well, for starters, there aren't any psycho's, weirdo's, or fake profiles... at least none that I have encountered yet.

Thanks to the people who found me and added me, you knwo who you are!

Yeah, it is not as internet-stalkerish as some of the other ones. It seems pretty legit, but who knows how long it will stay that way

With the recently opened API and the looming talks of going IPO, it could literally become the next web OS (ala Google). As long as they adhere to the "Don't be evil" motto like Google, I can see them being legit and powerful for many years to come. Only time will tell right now though...

Seriously, everyone knows that weirdos and fake people don't use Facebook. It's like kryptonite to them.

No wonder you're not on there.

facebook used to require you to register with an email address with the official domain of one of the top 75 colleges and universities in the country in order to join. it slowly spread to being basically all colleges, to basically any email address ending in .edu

earlier this year, the creators sold the company to Google for $1.1 Billion. Google then decided to milk it for all it's worth and open facebook up to the general public and cater to the 13-year-old emo audience like all the rest of the sites.

Essentially, if you keep your privacy settings stringent, and especially if you're actually in college, it can still be a good site. Thank God the overflow of emo and teenage angst and e-thug and white trash hasn't taken over the entire site (yet).

The privacy restrictions are very useful vs. some of the other so called social networking sites. Google didn't buy facebook btw. Mark values his company at like 10bil or something. The guy is crazy, and wants to keep it private.

Yeah exactly. Plus I don't feel the need to keep in touch with the same friends over various networking sites like that. Totally useless when everyone has both a Myspace AND Facebook.

In my case, ALL of my Candadian friends are on facebook (they aren't on Myspace), so the easiest way to keep in touch with all of them is through facebook.

Uhh, you are 100% wrong there. Mark Zuckerberg has not sold Facebook to anyone. Yahoo offered as much as $1.6 billion for it, but he denied (some sources quoted him as wanting $2+ billion at the time).

Anyhow, there are several rumors that he will be taking his company IPO sometime within the next 3-6 months. Many experts have placed Facebook's value as high as $8 billion, but more realistically $3-6 billion, and of course this is based on IPO speculations.

Also, Wikipedia is your friend. No need to post bologna like that.

Wikipedia is awesome, it can be edited by anyone anywhere in the world...so you know you're getting the most accurate information possible.

Yeah, hence citing the credible sources at the bottom. Footnotes are such an interesting concept! ;]

...and yes, I got the reference.
