Just because someone is friends with, hangs out, or talks to someone of the opposite sex... do you assume they are hooking up?

If so, I mean come on, seriously. How pathetic can people be for assuming that?

I'll take the Leykis approach on this one (because I think he's dead-on here) and say that any straight guy who has a female friend is (generally) physically attracted to her. I'm not sure how it is the other way around for the girl, but yeah...guys who are in relationships and have female friends that they want to hang out with are asking for trouble.

but this thread is something personal and i'm sure some people who are reading this will know exactly what i'm talking about.

As a Leykis listener myself, I know what you're talking about, BUT, it still doesn't mean they are hooking up.

I couldn't agree more. A good friend of mine once told me, WHEN A GUY AND GIRL ARE BEST FRIEND OR CLOSE FRIENDS, USUALLY ONE OR THE OTHER WANTS TO HOOK UP WITH THE OTHER.

but what rob and woody are saying does ring true in some aspects as much as i hate to admit it. although i love hanging out with guys. and not just to hook up with them so i have found the perfect solution, 4 gay boyfriends. the best of both worlds.

but i don't know, there are a lot of guys that are on these boards that i have loved hanging out with and have become friends with and don't want to sleep with them and vice versa. oh well, i guess each situation is unique

Like someone who is married, or is or was one of your best friends girlfriends. You can't touch (like that) but you can still enjoy each others presence.

Another note: Different people have different meaning for the word "hooking up."

Some mean it as I kissed or made out with. Some mean I slept with.

In Conclusion: Just depends. Every case is different.

hahahaha... this thread is cracking me up! IMO, the ones that usually think or say that "someone" is trying to hook-up (kiss, touchy the butt, have oinky boinky, get lost in between the sheets) are the ones in a relationship where one or the other is kinda possessive (yeah a bit jealous).

A little example: Someone I know would always think that whomever (guy) spoke to his girlfriend or even did I slight favor for her, meant that that person wanted to hook-up! Yeah, you know, sexual stuff! OMG!

IMO, something like that would cause me to think that that person was doing the hanky panky behind someone's back. Feeling guilty?

Both guy & girls like talking sh*t and sometimes the guys are worse.

Generally no. I have friends who hang out with each other that are the opposite sex. Platonic relationships are common in my group of friends.

There is this one paticular couple who frequents ruby skye often. Hes a good friend of mine but holy shit his girl is a knockout. Asian and from HK.

Shes super friendly too, and associates with everyone there, and even sometimes comes over and hugs and hangs all over me. Even while her guy is like standing next to me. Even kisses me and gives peoples hugs and stuff... Its weird.

Hes a pretty big guy too. Big enough to pummel me and throw my ass off the stage into the crowd.

Girls will befriend guys mainly for the companionship and attention. Nothing like warming up to a guy dumb enough to let you bear your soul to him, keep your secrets, have a shoulder to cry on and all that other sentimental shit a normal boyfriend should do but without the hot sex or ever having to put out. Total win for the girl, and not really anything beneficial to gain for the guy. And it's a total win win situation for the girl if she's going out with a guy who's a total asshole but good in bed, and is best friend's with another guy whom she trusts, and gives her the impression that he actually listens and understands her, even if he truly doesn't. Impressions are what matters anyways.

And any straight guy who's too close to a girl just wants to do her up teh pooper. TROOF.
