RIP - Archy

RIP Archy (1992 - August 22, 2007)

Archy passed away today. I'm so devastated. It's like my own child died. He gave me 10 good years of being the most loyal companion. I'm so pissed.

---------------------------
He's lost his weight, skin n bones, barely eats the baby food I give him because he can't hold it down. He can't purr anymore. Just sitting here on my lap, his breathing sounds like a wheeze, like he's short of breath. This cat can't even hold its head up all the way its so weak. It's really sad watching it get worse by the week. Imma take him to the vet and see what they say tomorrow. Might have to put him down.

Anyone else lose a animal companion recently?

Yes, the wise choice is to put him down. Don't make him suffer more than he has.

sorry to hear

DId you ever think when you eat chinese
It ain't pork or chicken but a fat siamese?
Yet the food tastes great so you don't complain
But that's not chicken in your chicken chow mein
Seems to me I ordered sweet and sour pork
But Garfield's on my fork
He's purrin' here on my fork

There's a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
The place that I eat every day at noon
They can feed you cat and you'll never know
Once they wrap it up in dough boys
They fry it real crisp in dough.

Chow Lin asked if I wanted more
As he was diallin' up his buddy at the old pet store
I said "Not today, I lost my appetite"
There's two cats in my belly and they want to fight.

I was suckin on a roll-aid and a tums or two
When I swear I heard it mew boy
And that is when I knew

There's a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
I think I gotta stop eating there at noon
They say that it's beef or fish or pork
But it's purrin there on my fork
There's a hairball on my fork

that exact thing happened to me. My cat got leukemia and lost weight fast and died

Sorry to hear about your cat dude

If the poor thing can't even lift it's head, then it's probably best to do the humane thing, and put it down.

Sucks though

Last year my cat had thyroid problems and eventually died of kidney failure. I was there to watch the final moments (eyes rolled back in head, death spasms). Not pretty.

Posted by Sunsnail on Aug-16-2007 07:12:

I remember you posting pics of your cats years ago. I'm disappointed to hear one of them is dying.

Posted by smakmagik on Aug-16-2007 07:13:

....

are you hungry?

Posted by enferno on Aug-16-2007 07:25:

go get a brick and put it outta its misery

Posted by DJ Shibby on Aug-16-2007 08:21:

Domestic cats seems extremely predisposed to kidney failure.

I wonder if its the environment, their genes, or the low-quality food we feed them...

sorry to hear that krypt...I'd feel like crap if I lost my baby girl. Cats really do become family members after a while. I hope your vet has some good news tomorrow.

I dunno, Sleazy is probably the better side of 15 and going on 16, every year I sort of watch him turn into a complete vegetable through winter, wont go anywhere, eat much or do anything except curl up somewhere warm. Come spring he wakes up out of his coma, staggers outside for the first time in about 4 months and runs off to impregnate girl cats.

+1.. it frightens me to even think about it.

losing a pet is never easy, no matter how long they've been around for. i've lost a few cats in my lifetime and it is always heartbreaking... but when they're sick or getting too old it's important to do the humane thing and let them go so they're not sitting around wallowing in misery and pain.

it's a tough decision, i know. i watched a very close friend of our family let their cat get to a point where he just really should not have been alive anymore - i mean he couldn't eat, use the litterbox, walk up stairs, etc... and they basically had to lock him in the basement because they didn't want to put him down. finally my mom forced them to do the right thing, and as sad as it was to know that he was in kitty heaven (i grew up with this cat - we were good buddies) it was a relief to know that he wasn't sitting around in some basement all alone and in pain.

Krypton - Sasha and i send our best wishes and a warm cuddle to get you through your hard times.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat.
My wife's cat of 10 yrs had to be put down last year because of leukemia as well
The poor thing would not move, barely eat and had sores on her paws and mouth
The vet recommended to put her to sleep so that she wouldnt hurt anymore...it's the humane thing to do.

RIP Smokey

Political question:

Why is it "humane" to put down a pet, but "inhumane" to put down a person in a condition like Terri Schaivo, who can only live artificially?

Posted by Rose on Aug-16-2007 17:07:

I'm sorry to hear about your cat it sucks losing a pet especially when you get so attached to them.

Posted by keithos27 on Aug-16-2007 17:48:
