composing in fruity loops...

me being poor, i've been reduced to writing everything in FL Studio 7. i want to know if y'all think it's viable to produce a cd using only that.

Posted by jupiterone on Aug-16-2007 23:29:

It's not the application you use, it's how you use it.

read there.

from what I understand, Bass Hunter only uses fruity loops and he seems to be selling at least a few CDs here and there so I would say if your making music that people like it doesn't matter what you made it on

Posted by Project-K on Aug-17-2007 08:11:

Don't use that as an excuse. FL studio is capable of producing proffessional quality music, the only real limitation it has is the competence of it's users.

guyver uses fruity loops and im sure that that plenty of other pro producers wlll use it aswell

Posted by Nemesis44 on Aug-17-2007 10:59:

Icone (a.k.a Wim Van Gelder) uses it. Even used a lot of sound from the generators that come with the application so you can't even fault them.

I use it and have had 5 releases so for, got 6th coming out soon.

It's all down to your knowledge. Producing is a very steep learning curve and is not something that will sound good overnight. We are talking years of work here. So be prepared to dedicate some time to it.

Cheers

thanks for the responses, y'all. i only ask because i don't spin (and probably never will) no $ for equipment and no time to learn...just wasn't sure how "accepted" it was to do everything on a computer.

Posted by Nemesis44 on Aug-17-2007 11:45:

Very accepted.

I'm no pro, but i made all of my tracks in FL

www.myspace.com/rythomasmusic

4 out of the 5 tracks are signed too, obviously 'Catch' cannot be signed as it is a booty

I don't quite understand what that has to do with producing.

zgr Can uses FL.... Even BT uses FL...

Have a listen to zgr Can - Changed (zgrs Second Mix)... I love that song.. Extremely well produced IMO.

Is like all, you can give a Lotus to anyone you know, and they wont win nothing in any challengue, give the same car to a talented driver and you will see results, all is about the person behind, of course, at certain level there will be the need for a better setup, but a talented producer can do almost whatever with a limited setup, FL does the job perfectly for a profesional release.

Kopi =o.

Absolutely true. It still eludes me as to why people think FL Studio isn't quality.

Posted by dj B-Luv on Aug-18-2007 07:40:

well, it's not that i don't think FL isn't quality stuff...it's just that i've always thought in order to be a credible dj you needed to have the turntables and such...

Posted by azndragon0613 on Aug-18-2007 07:52:

Oh I misunderstood. Just that it rings a bell when people say Fl studio isn't enough for them.

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Aug-18-2007 08:33:

Fruity Loops has a reputation of being cheap or cheesy, but really it's a great piece, especially for MIDI/VST use, it's main purpose.

Not my preference, but that's more of personal preference than any shortcoming of the program.

Learning curve is less than most the comparable programs, too.. always a plus!

There is a difference between producing and DJ'ing. FL isn't for DJ'ing.

Posted by cybernetica on Aug-18-2007 16:47:

The reason why so many think FL is not a serious music making tool is probably because it looks like a kid's toy. Also the name "fruity loops", cant get any shittier.

Posted by iast on Aug-19-2007 02:34:

FLSTUDIO can make great stuff. Anyone who tells you something else needs to get wtfpunched in the face!

Only con I have with FLSTUDIO is that I sometimes have way too many windows in the screen, and it feels awkward to work with .wav files but just because it's awkward doesn't mean you can't work with them. I can still work with .wav file loops but i'm much more comfortable with ableton.

and to add to the list of producers who use it: Kanye West

Posted by Andryuha on Aug-19-2007 16:46:

I found that ableton is easier to use then FL, but overall process is very similar.

breakfast uses FL. (the guy signed to ferry corstens flashover label) all the biggest djs use his tunes and they sound of the highest quality.

Ok but Fruityloops is rather a Ford than a Lotus

anyway, check out the demos of fruity and reason as both programs offer everything to produce a complete track.

Posted by Edm_bpm on Aug-22-2007 11:38:

i dont see the differnce (unless u are a geek) between FL and cubase reason etc. all they do is plot all the elements of your track in the right place. its more the plugins and vsts u install that make the difference. its up to u to make it sound good.

for instance if say pvd learned FL, with his experience, when he is comfortable with FL, i dont imagine his tunes (on FL) sounding any differnt to his previous tunes.

even is FL was only a ford, put a racing legend behind the wheel and he will rip apart an unexperienced lotus driver.

and lotus was a shit example.. a lot of fords would 'have' a lotus

Posted by DJ RANN on Aug-22-2007 13:42:

the lotus thing was a bit of a tenuous analogy, but apart from the gt40 and cosworth (which frankly will have just about anything) I can't think of another ford that would have a lotus. (off topic I know...)

I am toying with the idea of switching to FL, as even though I do like cubase/nuendo and it lets me do everything I need, I find it doesn't lend itself well to a fast workflow - everyhting seems to take a long time and many people keep saying FL is so fast to work in.
