Essential "Essential Mix"

I know we've had some threads for "Song of the Week". I thought I'd start one for classic, or "must have" live sets.

Alot of times I get a chance to do some research myself on what's upcoming, what DJ has played and where. Other times I rely on others' feedback for a good live set to download (esp Czaoth..that MOFO has about every live set out there).

So in the spirit of this thread.....

....Czaoth and I were discussing a classic Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix that played on February 13, 2000. A true classic (when Oakey was just being Oakey). Enjoy.

PS I've downloaded many AvB sets, but haven't heard any that resemble what he played at ARIA. Let me know if you've heard of any.

fast you crazy???? rank 1 set at sensations was much better than all the screwups they did at te2002!! man just listen to awakening it's like they didint rememeber the song!

i also recommend any oakie essential mixes from 1999/2000

tiesto's 09-09-2001 essential mix was pretty good too.

I dont know about that man.. that was a pretty average set if you ask me. I think it was the first live broadcast of second sun empire though which was kind of cool. But other than that there have been much better pvd sets.

best pvd set: pvd - live at innercity dec 31, 2000

best oakie set: oakie - live at oasis in mtl..never heard him play a better set

magik 7 was great also..live in LA

the thing is..last summer, there were sooo many good tracks that will all be classics..the list goes and on...so what happened what that there were too many good tracks at once and then it was slow from october til march so the good tracks eventually got old and for a period, all tiesto sets resembled each other...i think his NEC gatecrasher set is his best since dance valley in august(i think?)

pvd just changes all the time..u never know what the fuck he will play next

you're right about tiesto's sets. Energy is and will be the best trance event ever.
His performances at club eau and is solo tour at dutch dimension 2002 are also unbelivable.

I think thats why he's so good, and well acclaimed. He keeps surprising people everytime, and is loved more and more because of it. I'de be really bored of him if he kept playing the same thing over and over, year after year. Paul Van Dyk, and other great DJs (sasha, digweed, seaman, etc...) wouldn't be who they are if they sounded like a broken record (literally).
