Yep, I hate it when I have to syncronise my Windows XP clock every 2 days because it gets out of sync so quickly. What causes this? Does having only 128 MB of RAM have anything to do with it? Also, Winamp's timer has the same problem: At the beginning of the file, it's accurate in showing the remaining time in the track but, by the end, it shows that there are STILL about 20 seconds to go when the track's over! This shows that the Winamp timer moves at only about 0.9 X speed, when compared to timing it on a watch/burning to a CD and playing it. The same thing obviously occurs when showing the timer in Elapsed mode - It shows that 73 minutes, 45 seconds has elapsed but, really 74 minutes, X seconds has elapsed. What causes this and what can I do to solve BOTH of these problems? In other words, my Timex Ironman Triathlon watch is more accurate than Windows XP's clock (Centi-second accuracy)! The funny thing is that the watch is NINE YEARS OLD! The reason why this bothers me is because I record stuff to Minidisc a lot and I sometimes lose a few seconds due to incorrect time display in Winamp!

yeah i've noticed the winamp tracktime is rather dodgy

don't really notice it tho...unless, like you mention...when recording to minidisc

...i wonder if mp3 players show correct time, or dodgy winamp time

never had problems with the windows clock tho...using 2k...so dunno if that matters

If I remember right this has something do with battery, it should be replaced in every few years or windows' clock starts going wrong.

Yeah...I have this problem too. I don't think it's the battery, because I just bought my computer from DELL and I'm having the same problem. I think the best thing to do is e-mail Microsoft and ask them what the problem is.

Something I found:
Reason your clock might be losing time is related to the fact that every computer uses a battery to store certain settings. When this battery fails, as they all do eventually, your on-board clock will lose its time and your system will forget about its hard drive defaults. Other text: If the computer's time and the time on the clock are different, the computer's battery may be too weak to keep accurate time, and it should be replaced. But there are other reasons what could cause the time-loss.

its not because of the battery, I had this problem since the first week I had my cpu. Its not because of Ram, cause I have 1024 MB and it still gets messed up. Its just an internal problem with windows (even happens in my XP) that microsoft never fixed.

Well, it CAN'T be my battery because I just purchesed this PC on 2001/09/17 at 17:50 so, I don't know what it is but, I'm going to CALL MS on Monday to find this out. I want to find this out BEFORE I buy a Timex Datalink watch and begin syncing up my PC's clock with my watch. Thanks everyone! Keep the solutions coming in but, just rule out the battery one. I'll still put in a new battery, though. It doesn't LOSE time completely, it just is always at least 10 seconds off time.nist.gov beginning about a day after syncing it.

well quit yer bitchin and go here:
NIST and download that proggie...keeps my time pretty accurate. im never off by more than .3-.4 seconds in time...late/

Thanks! Well, one problem is solved, one to go! Whoever's having the Winamp problem mentioned above, e-mail Winamp's staff. If they get enough e-mails, maybe by the time version 2.80 and the FINAL 3.0 versions are released, this'll be fixed!

my winamp often misguesses the correct time... but it doesn't effect me because it's only by like a second.
