Ne-yo [2007 artist of the year]

This award winning new artist definately deserves it. Not only does he write beautiful lyrics for himself and other artist but his new album is the best non-edm album I've heard this year. While other young artists in his genre like Chris Brown have fancy dance moves , their music lacks lyrics.Neyos lyrics and story telling are deep and pull you in at the same time. Some of the artists he's written music for include Mary J. Blige, B2K, Faith Evans, Musiq, Beyonce, and many more. He started writing at an early age and his album release had taken the #1 R&B billboard spot for a while. His new album has so many well written tracks with soulful melodies. These are a couple of my favorites from his new releases.

If there's any TAs who listen to R&B on the side, I highly recommend this album.

Wait, who declared him 2007 Artist Of The Year?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Aug-19-2007 12:40:

Eww. The backing track on the first video sounds like it was taken straight from the MIDI.

What awards has this person won, exactly?

What the heck?

BET best R&B artist.

It's not a grammy , lol but it's the top R&B award given by the biggest African American Music channel owned by the same company that owns MTV. But like Jerry Seinfeld said about awards they don't mean much. It's really what your personal opinion is.

Here's a cleaner version of that make it work song, I love the lyrics. For anyone who's been or still is in a serious relatrionship, you'd understand where he's coming from.

Ah, I was wondering who had said that...

In my opinion, whoever is crowned "artist of the year" should be someone doing something different from everything else that's out on the market and still making it work. He's just doing a good job with a sound that has been tried and tested, from what I can tell in this thread.

Sad times for R&B.

Surely you jest? Here in SA, he is shoved done everyone's throat everyday on the radio - that awful "Because Of You" honestly has reached the point of sickening me when I hear it. Indeed it is dark days for rnb, I think the best hope they have is Timbaland, and even his stuff is sucking at the moment - sounds better on other peoples records than on his own!

This is HORRIBLE

Posted by david.michael on Aug-20-2007 12:38:

Old, unoriginal, recycled generic downtempo R&B. This just does nothing for me.

I don't understand why people post R'n'B threads on a Trance forum!!
R'n'B is musically, the polar opposite to Trance. I'd say most 'Trance Addicts' here hate rnb, so if u want to talk about it, go to the Chill Out Room. This is the music discussion "... where you can talk about Trance, or any electronic music".
I dont mean to be harsh, its just i come here to read about Armin, Ferry, Above & Beyond and such, not Ne-yo!

In the most technical sense, most modern R&B is electronic music.

Bloody hell, what a disgrace!

Hey, here's an idea:

There's no need to read about the things you don't like. That way you can stick to your own little comfort zone and nobody has to suffer.

I don't want to discourage the artist - maybe he'll come up with something nice.

And if we discount that this is wrong thread at a wrong place, i also have no qualms about the tracks he is trying to promote - we don't expect people to churn out head-turning tracks at the first drop of the hat - it's a lot of struggle and probably he is one of the triers.

But to think that he is the "2007 Artist of the year" and if his nomination was based on any of the above-mentioned tracks indeed signals depressing times for R&B.

Hah! If you want to read about those guys, you've definitely come to the wrong place. Even when TA talks trance, it's not typically about them... unless for comedic purposes.

Better scurry off to trance.nu quickly, son.

I find that Ne-Yo's work is way too repetitive, there's almost no progression between his style back when he did "So Sick" and his new album. He makes hit, yes, maybe, but I still consider him as one of the "generic" R&B artists.

But on the other hand, not many R&B artists really surpassed themselves this year. Last year, there was Justin Timberlake but he received enough regconition already.

I should've made myself more clear and changed the title of the thread. I think some of his better songs were the ones he wrote for artists like Mary J. Blige. I don't think he's the best R&B artist out there, I consider Marques Houston and Usher to be the most talented overall. Since I see there's a lot of TAs who aren't into R&B I'm going to leave you guys with 2 of my favorite R&B tracks in the past few years that used to kill the dancefloor including a classic that some might remember from the old days.

The classic from the old school.

THREAD CLOSED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS GENRE ISN'T FAVORED BY THE MAJORITY OF TA.
