do you consider "getting dressed up".....

khakis and a polo from like lacost?

i am wondering if its only the rednecks in georgia who think that is getting "dressed up" or not. usually when we get a presentation from a speaker he comes dressed like that. and when a professor asks us to dress nice for a presentation... half of the guys show up like that.

so.. what are your thoughts?

Posted by Sunsnail on Aug-20-2007 21:05:

I'd say it's kinda dressed up.

/Georgian opinion

minimum, i concider a nice pair of jeans, a button down shirt and a sports jacket as dresed up....

minimum.

what does this mean? dress pants, jacket and a shirt?

Posted by lcid on Aug-20-2007 21:11:

i'd consider that business casual, as long as the polo is tucked in and the khakis are nice and wrinkle-free, along with a nice belt and nice shoes. if you're going to do the minimum to look "professional" it at least should be a nice looking outfit and now thrown together like you wear a t-shirt and jeans.

also, there's different levels of dressiness depending on the situation. getting dressed up for a work meeting and getting dressed up for a wedding might be 2 entirely different things. you just kind of have to assess the situation and figure out what's appropriate.

yeh, definitely not dressing up.

Posted by kadomony on Aug-20-2007 21:15:

imo, khakis and a polo says "hey i'm a prick"

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Aug-20-2007 21:19:

imo, nope not dressed up.
when i hear "dressed up", i think looking nice for the occasion. since it's a presentation, a nice sports jacket, clean pants, and nice shoes would be the minimum. a tux isn't required for that.

Posted by Sunsnail on Aug-20-2007 21:20:

khakis are more dressy-uppy than jeans

not if worn with a sports coat..... well at least not in my opinion.

Posted by Orbax on Aug-20-2007 21:25:

jeans are never ever ever ever part of dressing up no matter how fancy anything else you are wearing is.

khakis are business casual, polos casual.

you need dark pressed slacks, shoes that dont show sock, a belt, a button up shirt - tie preferable with simple/strong pattners(nothing too busy), and a jacket.

no pastels, no faded colors. either white or dark. Pressed collar, look sharp.

dressing up has to include at least 3 pieces of clothing in my humble opinion. And that does not include jeans and shoes must go along with the outfit. The lest would be:

dress pants, button up shirt and a tie.

Dress shirt, dark pinstripe suit (thin pinstripes!), vest (would be super awesome), and a light tie (I like to combo light tie with dark suit...just me though). Also everything should be a slim euro fit, none of that baggy pleated nonsense

Posted by Orbax on Aug-20-2007 21:34:

omg never pleated.

my favorite suits are New York style. Its very euro. Higher collars, slimmer fit. West Coast business suits are baggy pieces of shit.

Get it tailored. If I got a suit off the rack i might have to literally go nuts.

No

Posted by bas on Aug-20-2007 21:36:

I never understood the pleated thing...I'm not a 70 year old man with a prostate the size of a grapefruit

Posted by Orbax on Aug-20-2007 21:39:

i think fat people wear pleats. hides the size of the leg

Posted by shaw on Aug-20-2007 21:43:

sometimes I'm a fan of pleats, sometimes not. Depends on the pants. Anything that's supposed to be casual, though, no.

Definitely not a fan of cuffs on pants, either.
