A rather strange job offer

I work as a freelance web programmer, and one of my clients (an alumni association) is going to merge with a bigger alumni association. So far, so good. However, they now asked me to e-mail (or phone) each one of the former students in order to update their info.

But, let's be honest: what kind of person would be willing to give their personal info away over the phone (even if I claim to be working for the alumni association) or via e-mail? Is this even common?

That's exactly what I expect. I'd never ever give away my info like that... reason why I'm puzzled by the fact that they asked me to do that.

True, but:

  1. If I find a legal way of doing that, I don't see why I should ignore a job offer;
  2. I'm the one who is going to insert all the data into the database;
  3. My brother is the one doing all the calling/writing (and he's the one who's going to get most of the money)... I'm just their contact, so to speak.

It's based on a film called Trainspotting, but I edited it

oh, if it's your brother doing it (and you don't like him very much or he's getting most of the money) well, yeah.

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a starter home. Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?

i was recommended that film just a few days back.
