Need a Vista compatible USB audio recorder/program
Hello all. I recently got a new Toshiba laptop, and I'd like to use it to record my fellow FLTA's DJ sets (as well as other regional TA DJs when I re-visit them soon) but to my dismay this laptop is running Windows Vista. In addition to USB hardware, I need a program that can record line-in and is Vista compatible.
I am looking to spend no more than $100 on the USB device itself.
Thx in advance.

I only got this laptop because it was at a good price and it's a Toshiba. Vista = mierda (SHIT), totally agreed.| quote: |

Why cant you just get an rca to 1/4" headphone jack and plug into the Microphone in slot (assuming it has one?)
Not that you need a mixer, but some now have a USB out feature.... 'cept I know nothing about their quality etc...
Sorry bro. Best of luck

| Originally posted by DarkAngel ! FLTA's best DJ told me about that program but that it records the programs as .WAVs and they're massive but at this point I don't care, it's something. I just need to find the USB hardware, or do the mic thing you suggested... |

| Originally posted by Ian dude. while it records as .wav u can instantly convert to .mp3 or whatever, so as long as u have the room to store the wavs (a 1 hour set is roughly 650mb at a guess) then you don't need to keep them as 'huge' sets. |
OMGWTF
So I decided to try _Nut_'s suggestion...1/4" to RCA thru the mic jack, and I installed Total Recorder (even tho Vista says it's incompatible).
It works

Thank you for your help, man!
Woot!
Simplicity to the rescue. I used to do that when I recorded my old mixes.
Makes sure you can get a sample it before they go live.
Get them to 0dbz it out on the mixer and make sure your mic line in is reading just below peak. That way you are getting in all of the signal you can get without worrying about distortion (assuming when the DJ's mix they dont go too far into the red).
Alright, well if you're happy with that - I'm glad you found something, but if you want any other recommendations for audio devices, I'll gladly help (was away getting dinner and packing to move when you posted this).
Under $100 wouldn't be easy though, so I'd say just stick with the line in on your laptop for now.
And remember, never record anything without permission - one of the biggest locals in Chicago got banned from the biggest club in the city for a year for recording an Armin set.
Not saying you'd have the same kind of problems, but it doesn't hurt to ask
