Underworld - Oblivion With Bells [PIAS]

quote:
Nearly 2000 days on from 'A Hundred Days Off', Underworld finally release their fifth studio album. 'Oblivion With Bells' arrives in October.

That's not to say Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been slacking off. Since 'A Hundred...' five years ago, the UK duo have scored two films (Anthony Mingella's "Breaking and Entering" and Danny Boyles' "Sunshine"), published a typographic journal ("In The Belly of Saint Paul"), released scads of digital-only releases, set up an internet radio show as well as played scores of gigs around the world.

Apparently they've been collecting material the whole time for 'Oblivion With Bells', which was finally completed in spring this year. The album was recorded with the aid of laptops, a couple of home studios, a pig shed and Abbey Road's legendary facilities, and apparently Darren Price, Brian Eno and Larry Mullen from U2 even helped with the final track selection.

The album promises to draws heavily on Rick and Karl's influences, which are listed as Nick Drake, Def Mix, Ricardo Villalobos, Can, James Holden and Brian Eno. According to the press notes, the album promises to "kick off like Saturday night with Sven Vth, Simian Mobile Disco and Frankie Knuckles all fighting to get on the decks, then takes you over the flat fields of rural Essex, through Kings Cross with its Olympic dreams and piss stained alleys, ending blissed out in a hidden cove in Ibiza."

Tracklist

01. Crocodile
02. Beautiful Burnout
03. Holding The Moth
04. To Heal
05. Ring Road
06. Glam Bucket
07. Boy, Boy, Boy
08. Cuddle Bunny vs The Celtic Villages
09. Faxed Invitation
10. Good Morning Cockerel
11. Best Mamgu Ever

'Oblivion Will Bells' by Underworld will be released on PIAS on October 12th, 2007.

Really excited by what they are promising. This should be good.

Nice

This looks very tempting indeed. I love Crocodile, i only wish it existed without those awful vocals.

Been excited about this since I first heard them mention it on their Lemonworld broadcast last year.

Seriously. Lady kindly leave, you've just worn out your welcome

Its just a matter of personal taste i suppose. I also ended up hearing the Huntemann remix before the original and i must say i like it a bit better. It's not that i think the vocals are attrocious, i just personally believe this track is good enough on its own and the vocal aspect somewhat takes from it. Either way i like both cuts, i just would have love to have a dub mix available.

I read this as "Oblivion With Balls"

when I found out it was 'bells' i was so disappointed.

oblivion with BALLS has to be the best title for an album ever

The Huntemann mix is awful. Leave it to a female DJ to have shitty taste

You are right, I need to take my top off to get people dancing.

I bet you get along great with women, don't you?

I honestly haven't heard any new Underworld in a while. What's their sound like these days?

The Huntemann remix is not awful, you just have bad taste.

Of course not. Peggy Sussed was released on their website as part of their online Riverrun Series a long time ago. The same with a fair bit of their recent new material.
