i am so sad to hear this!!! my favorite house dj, i gotta see him more than just once or twice this year. looks like i'll be driving down to SD now for his show on sept. 14.
Vanguard not dark and underground feeling?!?
Only place I can think of in LA that fits his "needs" is Mayan I think.
Function One sound system doesn't suit his needs?
He has a point...Vanguard is way too bright. If he wants something dark and underground, sadly LA isn't the place

Anyhow, it sounds like Avalon would be perfect.
Avalon = not underground 
He should just build his own club here.
I totally don't blame him for the decision he made.

hopefully he can find a different venue in LA, but i'm pretty sure i'm sure it won't be as good as the vanguard. man this is almost as bad as when spundae left circus.....shit news
Would be cool if Lawler could find a small filthy club with a low ceilings, decent sound, and go back to dark tribal laced with some tech house for LA.
He should just play Club Vegas on a thursday and tell them to turn off all the lights and the air conditioning

Understandable.
But:
If that's his approach, maybe someone should tell him that Mansion in Miami is less underground and not as musically inclined as the Vanguard crowd.
Vanguard is a bit bright but the sound kicks ass and the crowd wants proper music. I'm sure the lighting can be adjusted to fit. Then again, hes Steve Lawler for christ's sake, he can pick wherever he wants to play
sombody should put lawler in contact with the manangement at the larchmont, its quite dark and underground
i don't really think it had to do with just the venue, his last viva show here was very successful, good turnout, he played for 4 hours, had those dark gothic gogo dancers which helped add to the mood (and were probably his idea for that matter), and he even got on the mic and gave use a shoutout saying "thank you LA, you've been magnificent."
so what really happened? just to say that he doesn't like the vanguard sound like a bunch of bullshit to me.
