| The rumors are true. (Well, most of 'em, anyway.) Dave has emerged from his underground lair (the Dave Cave?) with a fresh take on a classic, the all new Prophet '08. It is an eight-voice synthesizer with a 100% analog audio signal path. And it will be shipping very soon. More details will be available here on the Web site in a few days. Following hot on its heels will be the Prophet '08 Special Edition, each of which will be hand-signed by Dave and which will feature lighted wheels (RED!) and exotic leopardwood end panels. And for those of you who are wondering what happened to BoomChik, stay calm. Do not panic. Development is progressing nicely. Stay tuned! |
p.s. also, I hope it's not just a re-packaged PEK with 4 extra voices.

I don't think Dave made this with us "youngtimers" in mind really.. The prophet was one of the most lusted after synths in it's time, and there were not that many made, and it was really expensive. Now (with their pockets stuffed with cash) the seniors will have another chance to own a prophet in all it's glory. (almost)
I know I would buy the yamaha cs80 is it was ever to be made a modern version. I'd play vangelis tunes till I'd drop.

| Originally posted by djbruuen i have to agree with this. In a vst, it'd probably be popular, but as hardware, i don't see why anyone would really want to cluter there studio with another synth, unless it really has something special to offer. |
plus the original prophet never really worked well..it sounded good but has so many problems that a lot of people couldn't afford to keep them. The maintenance was too much. the second build was different, it had an auto tuning function that allowed you to re tune the thing with a press of a button. Making an old synth again isn't a bad thing. It brings the sound of the past to a newer audience.
I'll bet some dude buys one and makes a serious track with an amazing lead or something...then the forums break loose on how to make that lead...the noobs and all the rest of us find out its the new Prophet...then bang you go and buy one. Probably not very true but hey look at the supersaw and the JP.
personally i like different synths...who needs another VA.

sounds extremely close to PEK and virtually nothing like the original Prophet. Just because the namesake has been revived, let's not get all excited just yet. We all know how well roland did with a Juno and SH name revival. It's like touring of old 80's bands - name and memories remained, yet none of the "content" or "feeling" is there. I hope I'm wrong on this and I will be the first one to eat my own words, but I'm not pitching a tent until I can hear at least some resemblance to the original Prophet sound.
thas all, foks

Since Dave Smith is the original creator of the Prophet 5, I would guess he didn't just wanna clone the PEK, in terms of sonic character. I haven't heard much from the PEK, but I'd say that the tonal character of what Ive heard is similar to that of pro53 - which I love
of course, alot better sounding!
