Hd Tv ???

SO i get this Tv its a samsung hd slimfit. I got it for free so im like cool a HD tv. Well I plug it in hook my my xbox 360 and i turn it on. Well it goes to auto program and im thinking it will stop at where my regular stations stop. Well it doesn't. It goes and now has channels like 73-1 73-2 so on and so on. I dont have hd cable just regular. I also noticed on my info screen that all these channels are 480i to 1080i. I even have some movies channels and music channels too ... so im excited im getting HD and im not paying for it.. then yesterday im watching a movie and it starts to rewind and pause. and then play again and then pause. I dont have on demand WTF ... so can someone help me and tell me what the hell is going on.. and im somehow stealing someone's HD signal with on demand?

but why would i be getting local and cable channels in HD i thought the antenna would only allow local HD shows.

Plus that doesn't explain the rewind and pauseing

how do you know you're getting channels in HD?

Posted by biznology on Aug-27-2007 17:35:

does it have an HD tuner or just an antenna?

perhaps the reason you 'got it' was because it was FUCKED UP!?

was the movie in the xbox or something else? if it wasnt the tv either the remote is fucked, or the player|

Posted by jonze on Aug-27-2007 17:44:

you probably get those HD channels because the tv has a QAM tuner and the cable company doesn't encrypt those channels.

When the picture comes up in the info portion where it displays the tv channel it has 480i 780i or 1080i and that is HD quality plus the picture looks way better.

Its not fucked up its brand new from samsung. My old tv fried under warranty and this was the replacement. I just plugged it in turned it on and auto programing added all these new hd quality stations. Now most are the same tnt spike use etc... but just in hd quality

Most HDTVs have a built in ATSC tuner to receive the free over the air HD channels. I have USB HDTV tuner. I can watch all the local HD channels on my widescreen monitor.

sounds like the tech at the station was tuned-out and f-ed up.

no big deal.

enjoy your 1080i (and whatever HD you are getting, especially for free), i don't watch much tv, but when i do 1080i is niiice and so are the DVDs.

btw, Samsung makes some of the best HD LCD TVs...
