Good movies that didn't get a fair shake in theaters.

I just saw "The Lookout". Awesome movie... and it was in theaters for maybe a week, tops. Anyone know of any other good recent movies that got the same treatment?

'I Take Loads in the Ass and on My Face', starring your mom.

Uhh...didn't Shawshank Redemption win an oscar of some kind?

Posted by Frenchie on Aug-30-2007 06:03:

Shawshank Redemption's won like 10 awards.

it also performed badly in theaters.
Then it became the highest grossing VHS rental.

very well then

The Lookout was ok-ish. He is an excellent actor, however. I think his talents were put to far better use in Mysterious Skin.

Anyone ever see the move Ravenous? Fucking amazing movie. On the same level with American Psycho as far as demented metaphors go(???).

In the U.S. this movie is known as: The Professional
but internationally it's known as: Leon

If you buy the dvd they call it by both titles "Leon: The Professional" and it's 133 minutes fully uncut. This movie stars Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and Natalie Portman. It didn't do good in the theatres but it's a great underrated movie.

The Big Surprise.

To be honest, though, it's a cartoon.

Why would you say this?

It's a cult flick and quite well rated.

I wasn't aware of this. It just made so little in the theatres and that's why I posted it. I would have expected this movie to rank in about 100 million like a tom hanks movie would perform, but it only made this much: http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/1994/0PROF.php

a 2006 thriller called Zyzzyx Road that, despite starring Tom Sizemore and Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl, had grossed a grand total of $30 at the box office.

Would have been better if they just took out all the magic bullshit and simply made a movie about the awesomeness of Tesla (still starring Bowie).

Howard the Duck

how could anyone not like a sarcastic humanoid duck that is pulled from his homeworld to Earth where he must stop an alien invader?

Equilibrium bombed out of theaters, too, didn't it?

I think so too, but its they way they marketed it as a second "matrix", that put me off, until I actually saw it

Posted by littlee1816 on Aug-30-2007 07:11:

Equillibrium - came out at teh same time as the matrix so it didnt get any theater time but it kicks the matrix ass cuz christian bale kicks ass

That was actually a pretty good movie. Of course, I can't think of a single role John Cusack has been bad in.

The scene where they are lying on the airstrip as the plane takes off made me laugh heartily.
