Ableton - pitch bend and beatmatching

Hi I would like to use Ableton to mix and I would like to know how first have the same beat between the two songs and in second how to synchonise the beats???
Thanks a lot

You know, i hate to be mean to the noobs, but asinine questions like this really get to me some times. Try doing a f*ing google search or check out the official ableton forum before posting this crap.

search for "warping"

you have to warp all tracks in ableton before you can use them

this is so ableton knows where the downbeat falls and can match them up.

don't worry about pitchbending for now.... and once you warp properly you don't have to worry about beatmatching either.

once you learn how to use it, warping is very easy with trance

I don't know anyone that warps on the fly- I've certainly never heard of it. You have to warp in advance and save the warp markers

When I read and look how to do you have a different method each one?
What's the best now? The official one?

the 'best' or 'official' way to warp is to warp in advanced - And what i like to do personally is test if it all sounds on the beat by using the metrone (sp?) tone and making sure it sounds good.

After awhile you get so good at it that you don't even have to listen to know its warped..

Personally i recommend anaylzing all your music first. Right click your music folder in ableton and "analyze audio". And let it sit and work through all your music. Then go ahead and warp it all up and hit the 'save' button.

But really.. The first thing you should have done is read the manual, google around, etc etc.

USE THE DAMN SEARCH BUTTON!!

P.s - The videos that helped me the most were on the Ableton website (http://www.ableton.com/) And im going to let you find the video yourself.

The way i warp personally: I mark up the first beat, Then i mark the rest from back to front.. works better for me. Upto you though

Ok,I just wrapped 2 MP3 perfectely but when I play it together the BPM are ok but the synchronise between the beat is not ok.You understand what I mean?
One bass is before the other, if I have a vinyl I have just to brake one to synchronise the bass but here i don't know how to do?

Posted by Fl@k Monkey on Sep-02-2007 09:43:

1)You shouldn't have to beatmatch at all.. Press play and aslong as both tracks are reasonably around the same bpm they will work.. Even if the bpm is far out they will still work but it will sound shit..

So if the beats are not perfect, Chances are you need to re-warp the tracks.. It takes practice. And reading.. Well worth it when you've learnt it though.

2)Don't forget to set the 'master tempo' in the top left where it says "120" by default.

The bpm are perfect but there is a delay between the 2 bass!!!
I put a track delay -80ms on the first and now is ok.
But I would like to do not that in live. I want that I drag my MP3 on the channel I want and I can start it directely...

Check your warping by turning on the metronome and skipping through the song.

my english is not so good!!
What'sa metronom?

Is there not a function like a pitch bend who can help to beatmaching like the jog on cdj?

I could keep sending you links and links of things i found within minutes of searching google and youtube but really.. None of us should have to. If you want us to help you out thats great.. But you need to do a bit of research on your own first.

ok ok thanks a lot...

if you have warped them correctly but they aren't in sync with each other then it sounds like you have the global quantise set to none. either that or you havent warped them correctly...

Posted by fzank on Sep-02-2007 12:45:

i don't understand what you mean?

Posted by Fl@k Monkey on Sep-02-2007 12:47:

Trust me dude, You haven't warped the tracks properly. Read/Watch the material i gave you

Posted by fzank on Sep-02-2007 13:04:

I don't stop since I woke up.... it-s not so simple... there are 20 different way to do it and I'm a little bit lost!!

Posted by Fl@k Monkey on Sep-02-2007 13:17:

Alrite, This is getting stupid and im finally going to bite..

If theres anything anyone here can all agree on. It's that no one here can give you a 15 minute run-down on how to become a professional DJ.

Personally i am beginning to wonder how new you are, How much you even know about mixing, And if the reason why you want to be a DJ is even a worthy enough one to help you. It's not all bells and whistles..

yes the main objective of a DJ is to put on a good time but in order to do that it takes years of practice/reading/practice/reading and oh yeah.. more practice. Not to mention money to buy gear and such.

If you can't figure out Ableton, Use Tracktor - I started off with VIrtual DJ. It's VERY simple and teaches you about phasing and beatmatching basics etc. Don't go being a puss and using programs that will automatically lock the beats.. Learn about beatmatching the hard way so you can always be prepared for the worse case scenarios.

As for Ableton - Yes there are plenty of ways to warp and if you absolutely must use Ableton and you can't just try some other simpler programs to learn on first.. Go and read/watch the content im trying to help you with..

Yes i know you dont have great english, And you've been trying, and blah blah blah..

Welcome to the life of a DJ. Hard fucking work and lots of practice and reading.. The reward makes it all worth while though.

Chances are you're NOT going to learn how to beatmatch today. Thats ok.. Keep reading/watching/practicing. This shit dosen't happen overnight.
