polarity reverser

does anybody know of a plugin that will reverse the stereo image of a whole track?

i suppose you could set up a master bus that went to two other buses each with an individual stereo imager on it, rotated and symmetrically opposite.

but... why?

Fl has a checkbox in the audioclip/sample channel setting, that allows you to do that. I suppose you don't use fl then.

Yeah, mgPhaseShifter.

From the makers of mgTriggerGate.

Its freeware and available here: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1155.html

what exactly is this needed for??

Posted by Derivative on Sep-03-2007 19:52:

To prevent or reduce this.

Oh, and also to completely and selectively destroy a signal. Like when you have a song and an instrumental and you just want the vocals. Hah!

This in particular sums it up nicely.

ahh okay,

thought it was just switching the stereo signals.

Divert power from the shields. Reverse polarity!

Well thats how it does it. By adding a phase shift (a time delay measured in milliseconds) to 1 channel of a stereo pair. Which either causes beating or reduces it/eliminates it depending on what the phase relationship is in the original stereo track.

If its so fucked you'll never be able to fix it, but by progressively adding more phase shift you can at least make it sound massively worse and identify what instruments are causing problems. Then go back and remix it, remove it entirely or change its pitch (and therefore periodicity so it no longer causes the same pattern of destructive phasing.)

Yea me too. The topic title & first post aren't particularly clear on the subject.

Did someone say reverse the polarity?

Posted by daeus on Sep-05-2007 15:06:

Most of the time its always good to just reverse the polarity and hope for the best

Posted by Derivative on Sep-05-2007 20:40:

I just decompiled mgPhaseShifter and amidst the reams of useless code I found this at the core:

Holy badass batman!

Sometimes when I'm at work I use this to reverse the polarity, it solves many windows OS based issues.
