My body hurts. I basically danced non-stop from 11pm (the time JC's bro, David Moses got on) till 4am.

Turns out that the Colombian dude did open the night, hahahha, and we all thought the guy was BSing on that other thread. Him & David played great opening sets!! Couldn't help but dance... David played a nice and groovy set. I was tired and sweating before Mauro even got on, hehe.

From the time Mauro started (12:30am), till the time he finished, I was literally dancing non-stop, and it was packed till the end.

He was playing some dark shit, but people kept asking him to play his old classics, and once he played a few old tracks, some friends who didn't know him back then text me saying, "Wtf is this 1998 Oakenfold trance shit"? That pissed me the fuck off. Oakenfold???? Dumbass, it's his OWN tracks from 1998, and people kept begging him to play it.

Mauro was so sick last night. I used to be dissapointed that he went from hard banging techno, to the style he is playing today... but actually, this is the new Mauro, and I like it. So glad he played a 3.5 hour set, he was fucking filthy... but his last 45 mins were the best (the closest thing I can compare his style with is how Lee Burridge plays @ after parties, but a little harder). I bet if they let him keep going, he would have gotten even more fucking darker & twisted.

Woody, I wanna see your video's, especially that fucked up track with the people screaming. That was one of the most "WTF" songs I have ever heard. I had to ask him what it was to make sure I can hear it again - "Pepe Bradock".

David Moses is on 11pm to either 12:30 or 1am and opening is Jeremy Reese all Giant employees. The tone will be a dark one for the night.

Nice one JC! Does not look like Mr. Reese to me

Bloody hell. I just realized that Pepe Bradock is the name of the artist, not the track. GRRR!!!!

I havent seen Mauro in AGES and I'm so glad my hubby and I went. At first I couldnt get into him but then about 30 minutes in I was like WOOO HOOO. It was good to hear his "signature" songs...cant go wrong with them. Danced alot and now my feet are paying the price.

Last night was a good night. Saw some friends and made some new ones. Not too packed which was nice...more room to get my groove on.

Great pics Drew. Next time wait til we're a bit closer to the stairs to tackle us. Nothing like bruises for a picture.

This is s a SICK Shot!!! It took me a while to figure out where it was! hehehe

Posted by gerard6975 on Sep-02-2007 23:08:

oh man! picotto rocks! digging his new sound and style. it's not the same as picotto of yesteryears but a dj that plays a sound that he's not really known for is a great trait in my book. and of course, hearing him on funktion one is totally bad ass.

I just found the songgggggggg. Pepe Bradock - Rhapsody In Pain. Here is a sample of it:

It takes a lot of balls for a DJ to play something like that. If I wasn't "sober", I probably would have started tripping out, lol. I still can't forget the look on peoples faces when he played it.

LOL! It was so weird how nobody had a clue about him. He only played for like 30 minutes though cuz he showed up way late and my brother let him play the last part of his scheduled set just to be cool. I am actually good friends with his girlfriend, small world.

Posted by SVGmethod on Sep-04-2007 04:59:

it was a good fuckin party. This was my 2nd time seeing Mauro Picotto and I think that he totally redeemed himself. I was so disappointed when I saw him a while ago at Circus Disco. He fuckin brought it hard, filthy, and techy on Saturday night. He was playing bomb track after bomb track for over 3 full hours.

Some of the tracks I remembered throughout the night were:
Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
Burnski - Pop3
Robert Babicz - Sin
Gregor Tresher - A thousand nights
Chymera - Umbrella

most of his set was comprised of stuff I have never heard before. And of course he plugged in some of his own classic productions. People went nuts to them. I was quite impressed how he worked his own older tracks in with the current minimal/techno stuff. It fit right in and didn't sound too out of place.

I was so fuckin tired from getting 2 hours sleep the night before and then working 9 hours at work and then coming straight to LA afterwards. I had to sit down for the last half of Mauro's set but still kept nodding my head to the sick beats.

I cant wait to have Mauro Picotto back in LA. It certainly was a treat.

Where is Woody??? I want to see/hear the video's he took!!

Posted by SVGmethod on Sep-04-2007 17:52:

lets not forget......

NEW ORDER - BLUE MONDAY!

Posted by DjWoody on Sep-04-2007 17:56:

He always plays Blue Monday. He's been playing it for as long as I remember. I think that must be one of his all time favorite songs. Hehe

BTW... WTF... EDM people don't know how to dance to 80's!!! hahaha. When Mauro dropped Blue Monday, only the girl that was next to me, and I started dancing it somewhat properly. I looked around, and there was people doing that kick dancing thing. OMG! That shit was getting annoying quick!!! It reminded me of that video where some kids have a motorcycle/scooter, and blast happy hardcore, than they start doing their kick dancing thingy!!!

Posted by Miss Julia on Sep-04-2007 18:09:

Let's not forget he played BANGKOK... the HARDEST Picotto track of all time, (besides Baugette & Hong Kong)!

Woody, stop avoiding me and post your damn videos already!!! lol

This is what someone posted on another board about his San Diego gig.

quote:
Mauro was SICK the first 30 minutes in SD. I was ready to call it set of the year already. Reminded me of Sven Vath at Spundae, the crowd was confused. Then he played foo foo trance. No shit. I'm talking early 2000 generic synth boring as fuck tickle me elmo shit, like ATB plays when he masturbates. A guy told me that he was advised to play that shit to keep the crowd in. If so, Mauro is a sell out bijotch. He went from a 9+ to a weak 2-. It never got better. Then, the club closed at 2:30. I've never seen Giant close early down here. Weaksauce all around. On one hand, I want to catch him in LA so he can redeem himself. On the other, why bother? I'm gonna cook some lizard steaks. Anyone hungry?

i liked the diversity of his set, while still keeping the
driving sound alive and kicking...9/10

Whoever posted that obviously didn't know who Mauro was or listen to his music back in the days.
