If so, how are they?

I have rm3s, its a good mixer for the price...but of course I cant even compare it to 275... they r much better, and more expensive...if u have money, u cant go wrong with either 175 or 275. But I rather used that money for records...

I own the STR8-80's. They're pretty decent decks. You're getting what you paid for, which is a solid turntable, but not a top of the line turntable. I'm ultimatley saving for 1200's, and I think that says something for the arguement that you should just save for 1200's and not bother buying anything but, however... without owning these and experimenting I wouldn't know i wanted to take this further and to the next level, so if you find yourself in a similar situation, I'd recommend them.

now correct me if i'm wrong, but i heard something about the straight tonearm having a negative effect on records...something about wearing them down faster....any truth to this?

Posted by DJ TranceFormer on Apr-23-2002 16:06:

Well yeah, people say so, but alot of people say that they don't see any difference between s-shaped and str8 tone arms...
I jsut got my str8-80 yesterday, they are pretty cool, only sux that they are plastic...

Posted by DJ TranceFormer on Apr-23-2002 16:07:

Also that key correction shit is bullshit, is does it's job, but when it's on, it sounds like you are in the middle of a mix, and u fuck up!

I exchanged my str8-80's to str8-100's
Now they are GooD!

it's a myth. It depends on how you angle your carts. If you ever read the cartridge setup instructions that come with new carts, the carts on the Technics usually are angled linearly to the direction of the tonearm.. which simulates a str8 arm.

If you read the Hints & Tips section of my site (see sig) there is a scientific (read: fact, therefore not disputable) discussion of straight vs. S-shaped tonearms.

Hmmm.
Just bought 2 brand new Str8-100's from ebay. One for $264 and the other for $279 USD.
Cant wait.

Posted by _Nut_ on Aug-30-2002 04:43:

I had some a while ago. This was the setup:

But those were sold on ebay. Now i have techs. Stantons are killer beginners but they do hold you back. I had to str8-80s.....

never toyed with the 100's but i have heard good things bout them

Posted by clubsolutely on Aug-30-2002 06:26:

i have those tt's, must say they are doing a fine job.. no mistakes here, only the key correction is something that is fucking bullshit, besides of it, its a great one for beginners and above.

Posted by _Nut_ on Aug-30-2002 15:34:

i do remember my one complaint about these TT's. The pitch adj was not exact. It wound up and wound down to the right spot. Was not fast and precise. But i got around that. Or maybe they were just a crap pair???!

I also own these decks, they good for learning. They hold u back once u can beatmatch np. Its hard to hold a beat constant without correcting it. If u can mix on these techs will be a nice transistion..

DAMN this is old! i already bought a pair of techs and a pcv 275 a long time ago

Posted by Greedy on Aug-31-2002 05:39:
