Public Search Listing
Your public search listing consists of your name and the thumbnail version of your profile picture. This listing will be shown to people who search for your name when they are not logged in to Facebook.

Use your search privacy settings to control whether your public search listing appears in searches from Facebook's Welcome page or external search engines. Changes you make will take effect immediately on Facebook, but there may be a delay before search engines are updated as well.

It's always been like that...

When you search somone by thier name... you only see thier thumnailed profile pic, thier name and network. Then you have the option to message them, poke them, add to friends and something else i forget...

If you really wanna be elusive, you just disable that feature and unless you actually know thier e-mail address or have been added by them.. you can't search thier name, and if they are on somebody's else's profile you only see the ? and not options to add or poke or msg...

Actually I believe this is somewhat new.
If you have facebook, yes, that is what appears when you search.
But what is stated is that people who are not logged in (which includes people who don't have facebook) can search and find these results.

I saw this on my main page on facebook:

"Now people can search for this listing from Facebook's Welcome page. In a few weeks, it may also be found through search engines like Google."

which still leads them nowhere
so they google you, but they can't even get into your profile, they have to login into FB, and request a friend add

playing around with security settings properly is the key - even in FB search, randoms only see my name and network, no thumbnail, and only MY friends (not friends of friends) can get into my profile

It just allows ppl who don't have facebook to see who has facebook.

Yes, there are lots of security features but not everyone uses them. I don't think its a big deal as I have the security features set the way I want, but who knows about those 13 year old girls who use facebook.

All these new features just keep adding to a reduction in security. That's all. You would be suprised how easy it actually is to commit Identity Fraud.

Definitely. That's all there really is to say.

Facebook has all the features put in place the ensure client privacy so you can't really say anything negative about them.

They are adding all these features to increase their member base just like any other site would do!

I think there overdoing it a little like there are way too many features, now some peoples pages are just polluted with useless junk.

i just think its dumb that you could look up someones profile via google. as for security, i know theres all those options. my profile is pretty limited. i def unchecked the box when i got this msg.
