SLINKY UK, RENAISSANCE EVENTS AND BACKBREAKERS present SENSATION - SAT, MAY 25

Once Again, RENAISSANCE EVENTS raises the bar for the clubbing experience in Toronto. On Saturday May 25th, please join us at the newly renovated York Theatre. In what is surely the most amazing new venue in the city, we will once again create the "Ultimate Night Out."

In order to insure your satisfaction, we have teamed up with two other extremely respected production companies, SLINKY UK and BACKBREAKERS. Known all over the world for their first class events, SLINKY UK will be bringing along their elite DJ roster. With a collection of Hard House, Driving Progressive and Tech Trance, they will show Toronto what the SLINKY UK "Sensation," is all about.

Also joining us for their 3rd Year Anniversary are BACKBREAKERS. A company that has been pushing the envelope with ground-breaking events, they are responsible for introducing Ontario to such artists as DJ Hyper, Freq Nasty, and many others. For this evening of celebration, BACKBREAKERS have gathered some of the world's greatest innovators in both House and Breaks Genres.

Along with these two companies, RENAISSANCE EVENTS invites you to see, hear and feel an unforgettable SENSATION.

RENAISSANCE ARTISTS

Lee Mullin of HYBRID - London, UK - Slinky
Hybrid's first album 'Wide Angle,' featured driving breaks and four-four beats overlaid with Russian Orchestral Strokes and the vocal talents of Julee Cruise, gained fans across the world and much critical acclaim, Lee continues to DJ and has played venues both large and small across the UK and internationally, the legendary Hybrid Production Team is made up of Lee Mullin,Mike Truman and Chris Healings. Mike and Chris have recently graced the Toronto Stage, now it's time for the final member to spin his magic.

Dave Lea - London, UK - Slinky
Whilst holding down a residency, and brand managers job at one of the leading clubs on the planet - SLINKY. Dave Lea gigs tirelessly across the UK each week, and has become a major fixture on the global circuit, musically inspired by the sounds of Mauro Picotto, Signum and Timo Mass, Dave delivers his own twisted blending of Hard Undeground Beats and Trance.

Rennie Pilgrem - London, UK - TCR, Track, Release Management
What more can be said about the man who created the "NU-SKOOL" sound? For over a decade now. Rennie Pilgrem has been pushing the boundaries of the breakbeat scene in the UK and around the world. From House, to Hardcore to Breaks, he has incorporated almost every genre of music to create his own personal brand of funk.

Jon The Dentist - London, UK - Phoenix Uprising, DAMN!
This man needs no introduction - A Toronto favourite since his first appearance for Destiny 2 back in 1993. He has consistently played throughout North America longer then any other European DJ, no slouch when it comes to other continents, Jon has spent a considerable part of his career playing on the biggest stages around the world along with Canada's largest gathering, The World Electronic Music Festival.

Chris Anderson - Houston, TX - Chemistry Records
This man is a force to be reckoned with. A unique style of production and his thirst for hard funky beats, put him well on his way to making a serious mark in the underground dance music scene. His tracks including "50,000 Watts Of Power," are played by the worlds top DJ's like Carl Cox, DJ Dan, Judge Jules, Scott Henry, Terry Mullan and many more.

Pandora Stevens-Keller - London, UK - Phoenix Platinum
One of the up and coming stars of the UK Trance scene, Pandora has recently become a hot commodity in her home country with this trip being her North American debut. Back in the UK, she has played at such famous stops as The Hippo Club (Cardiff), Apocalypse (Cardiff), Transaction (Cornwall), Candy Store (Plymouth), The Velvet Lounge (London).

Andrew Spence - Vancouver, Canada - Backbreakers, Futuristic Funk
The DJ formerly known as Slim, sorry no crazy symbols, just one bad ass DJ!! Andrew's lock 'n' load mixing and ferocious scratching abilities have been impressive trademarks of his from the GetGo. In addition to spinning a veritable typhoon of breaks, house and anything else that gets in his way, he will be ripping a tenor sax live into the mix through a mic, and effects, this awesome hybrid of wax and sax is making huge waves as Andrew blasts the envelope of the DJ performance into hyperspace.

OS/2 - Toronto, Canada - DAMN!
With more stamps in his passport than The Pope, OS/2 takes a little time off his busy DJ Schedule to become the official Renaissance Events Trance resident, prepare yourself for blissful anthems and that particular bangin' progressive sound that only he can produce!

Jelo - Toronto, Canada - 2WARS, Eastern Bloc, DAMN!
With a style that moves between Hard House, Techno and Breaks, it's hard to classify what exactly this man plays, but we do know that it's some of the the most slamming dance music you will hear in Toronto, and the reason why we have made Jelo a Renaissance Events resident.

Stretch & Hooker - Toronto, Canada - Lifeforce, DAMN!
"You've got to love it - or lose it - and most of all have fun doing it" - is a mantra of Stretch & Hooker who always have a good time while making you dance. They have used this philosophy over and over and it has taken them far. From Denver to San Diego, Buffalo to LA - Halifax to Vancouver these brothers have covered North America and then some - All the while having a blast!

Clayton Pauls - Toronto, Canada - Renaissance, Lifeforce
One Third of the Renaissance Crew, Clayton Pauls (aka 007) will come from behind the scene to hi the tables. His unique blend of progressive breaks, accompanied by a touch of House, create a "Chilled-Funk," that must be experienced!

Resident Soundboy, Dave Saddler, Tech-Tonique
Trevor James - Backbreakers Residents

These 3 Backbreakers residents unite for the first time to bring you another edition of the Backbreakers 3x4 turntable bonanza. Combining their different styles of Funk, Tech, Nu Skool, and Progressive Breaks, this will be a jaw dropping breakbeat bash. A set guaranteed to break all boundaries of a genre never meant to be divided, to unite all enthusiasts old and new, on one floor, under one roof, for one sound. Along with hard house vetran Trevor James, the Backbreakers crew is going to throw one hell of a birhtday party!

Ok - CONTEST TIME! WIN FREE TICKETS!

In order to stir things up a bit we have decided, in conjunction with Tranceaddict, to GIVE away 2 pairs of tickets to Sensation!

How do I get the goods you ask? Well its easy - just get involved in this topic! What we are gonna do is add up all the posts here and then have our computer pick a random number between 1 and that number and whoever's post that happens to be wins a pair of tickets. We do it again for the second pair. If its a double, we try again cause you can only win once and of course, if we hit on ourselves we pick another number. So there - lets have it. You don't actually have to say anything intelligent, but it would certainly help...

How bout a few helpers to get moving?

Ryan

It's great to hear you bringing back Jon the dentist, I saw him at big bud 5 year, but he played alot of new stuff, he needs to mix his new stuff with some of the old classics. I'm not knocking him, just my opinion on his track selection. Jon's set at WEMF 2001 is still one of my favourite trance sets to this day, unfucking believable mixing and track selection, it's reasons like him that I'll be at renessaince.

By the way, how did you guys score the York Threatres?

p.s. - Great choice! Something new and interesting, seems like only yesterday I was there to see Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (special edition)

btw, how long are the sets gonna be? 3 rooms for so little amount of djs only means 2 hour sets perhaps?

Posted by 007 on Apr-26-2002 14:11:

Everyone should sneak in a 2 hour set!

Peace,
MP

So.................how 'bout 'dem Leafs?

But seriously, this is looking to be pretty cool. The York Theatre you say? Interesting! I've never been there, what's it like, space-wise, acoustically, etc.?

Posted by DJOS2 on Apr-28-2002 20:32:

the place

Well, the place is brand new - the people that purchased the theatre and converted it into a rental facility just finished a year long, multi-million dollar renovation to convert it into one of the coolest looking spots in the city. It could easily pass for a high end nightclub but its main use is likely more along the lines of one-off special events like gala's, receptions and even weddings I suppose. Since it is so new, I have never had a chance to hear the accoustics, but you have to imagine that its going to be good since two of the three floor used to be movie theatres... I mean they are specifically designed for creating accoustic precision (no noise bleed either!!!).

I definitely think people are going to remember this place!

OS Out

are any of the actual theatres still intact?
if so...i might have to pull some moves in the back seats...

ahh the good ol' days

btw...that pic of jon the dentist looks NOTHING like him at all haha

and him hoping this guy from hybrid is better than the other 2 guys who were at the warehouse a month or so ago...
i mean they were good at what they spun, just i was expecting more trance-orientated music

Sounds pretty good OS/2

Posted by DJOS2 on Apr-29-2002 03:35:

trance

I have never heard him personally, but from what I have been told, Lee Mullin likes to bang it out a bit more than the others - not really the dry progressive that takes two hours to go somewhere - he is more the progressive house/progressive trance blend with more energy - we are giving him 3-5am so it should be the highlight of the trance room.

Posted by c0ld 0ne on Apr-29-2002 04:05:

ryan, everything sounds great. I look forward to hearing some amazing trance.

Posted by DamnDirtyApe on Apr-30-2002 04:20:

So that's what the York is now...

My gf and I would walk by it every once and awhile and say "I wonder what goes on in there?" One day we saw some people lined up & a bouncer, but another night there were middle-aged people dressed like they were going to an opera.

Should be a blast.

OS/2
How long is Jon The Dentist spinning ? Everytime I see him ... his sets are way too short. (1 & 1/2 hrs)

Posted by Spad on May-01-2002 10:38:

Nice lineup, bit cheeky calling it Sensation though

If you're lucky Slinky will bring their laser with them. *drool*

Questions

JTD will be playing for 90 mins - he actually prefers this length of time and has requested it in the past... he feels that high energy trance shouldn't go on for hours as there isn't as much of the slow build that you have if you were doing a progressive set and he wants people's attention for the whole time he is up there - without them getting drained.

BTW, Spad, what do you mean by "cheeky"?

OS Out.

Wow ... so much free shit at this party

Posted by failsafe on May-04-2002 15:52:

This party sounds sweet. I'll try and be there if at all possible. Any news at all on WEMF?

Posted by liquidchick on May-05-2002 01:50:

I'd only go to this party to see Jon the Dentist. I missed him when he was at Big Bud and it looks like I'm probably going to miss him again....hmmm, kind of like the Polkaroo. I should go cuz a friend of mine is spinning at the party. Oh, decisions, decisions.....doubt I'll go.
