Love Poundin' Sensation Windmill Sessions 09 September (deep melodic prog/trance)

Windmill Sessions 09 September

Presenting my latest monthly mix! Deep and melodic, chilled but energetic, always with progressive sensibilities however. This particular set is darker in tone initially before lightening and finally moving into a trancier finish. Hope you enjoy the music if you get involved!

Anibal Morais Ferreira-Acustica 1
Elusive-Red Is Violence
Elusive-It Becomes You(Breaking Up In Stereo)
Cassino+Laben-Unsound(snake sedrick remix)
Aris+Allis-Volume 11
D'tolio ft. Elina Q7-Surrounded By The Seas (mango remix)
Tranquility Base-Oceanic (satoshi fumi's thousand spring remix)
Vibrasphere-Erosion
4Mal+Etiket-Tomorrow Never Comes
Lank-Being Defenceless (snake sedrick remix)
Hawk ft. Sasja-Emerald Mine(ilya malyuev's ice cream+emeralds remix)
Alexander Popov-Hypnotize
Paul Van Dyk-Together We Will Conquer

Anibal Morais Ferreira-Acustica 1
A calm and soothing acoustic guitar track to kick the mix off.
Elusive-Red Is Violence
Dark, mysterious and beautiful is how I'd describe this track. Great vocals and overall feel. Reminded me of tracks like 'Battleship Grey'.
Elusive-It Becomes You(Breaking Up In Stereo)
Another melancholic gem from Elusive's fine new album. This track remains dark and builds the deep sounds as it progresses.
Cassino+Laben-Unsound(snake sedrick remix)
Continuing the darker tone initially in the mix, this track is all about depth of sound and hints of melody.
Aris+Allis-Volume 11
The mix begins to warm up now. Though still atmospheric, this track is lighter in tone. Wonderful cutting, chanty vocals are the signature of this tune.
D'tolio ft. Elina Q7-Surrounded By The Seas (mango remix)
Mango makes sparing use of the vocals, instead concentrating on the beautiful warm ambience and melodic washes.
Tranquility Base-Oceanic (satoshi fumi's thousand spring remix)
A wonderful, uplifting track. Old school prog feel to the beats and bass but with trancy sensibilities elsewhere. Very summery stuff!
Vibrasphere-Erosion
This track signals the start of the trancier section of the mix. Deep and building, with a huge break, it explodes into life upon its crescendo.
4Mal+Etiket-Tomorrow Never Comes
Upping the pace as the trancy sounds of 'Tomorrow Never Comes' enter the fray. Simple, melodic and very effective sounds.
Lank-Being Defenceless (snake sedrick remix)
A great little low tempo trance track that really carries the listener along with its infectious energy and building strings.
Hawk ft. Sasja-Emerald Mine(ilya malyuev's ice cream+emeralds remix)
Smooth, deep trance awash with melodic bliss and delightful mixed up melodies. Lovely stuff to dream along to.
Alexander Popov-Hypnotize
I almost shit myself when I heard the bassline on this track! Its huge! A real mover with that peak time sound. Bit of operatic vocals too.
Paul Van Dyk-Together We Will Conquer
Into classic zone once more to end the mix. This stunning offering still gives me chills, the transition from breakbeat to 4/4 ia a real money shot! Oh, and the vocals are sublime...

Any feedback would be tip-top! Cheers

You know I'm getting this, good sir. I was afraid I had missed it somehow. I had a week long training seminar last week, and catching up this week has made for a hectic work week. I'll try to leave some feedback soon.

YES!

I hate to be a pain in the ass but this seriously needs a cue sheet. I Look forward to Windmill Sessions every single month and this is the best one so far. I enjoy these sets with a passion.

Finishing this mix up at work now, and it's another mix with pure progressive quality. This one begins a little different than the previous sessions. The best comparison I can make is this: it reminds me of being indoors and brooding on a day that starts out rainy and overcast. There's a certain sense of restlessness that comes to mind. This is not a complaint, either...just an observation of how this mix is different than the previous sessions.

Then the mix dives into the usual 4 on the floor kick that really puts me into the groove. For me, personally, the mix really starts with Aris + Allis - Volume 11. The mix out of this and into D'tolio - Surrounded by the Seas is awesome. Surrounded by the Seas is just...wow! It gave me chills right away. I can't wait to give this track a proper listen in my phones tonight after the kids have settled into bed and the day has come to a close. The mix into Oceanic is nice, too, and Oceanic is a great summery tune with just a hint of funk in it. Vibrasphere's Erosion is massive, and behind Surrounded by the Seas, this is my other favorite track in the mix.

Excellent phrasing throughout the mix. Good, long blends without any dead spots to kill the flow. Mixes like these make me want to practice, practice, practice my own mixing.

This one is going on CD for vacation at the end of the month. I can't wait! Cheers as always for sharing!

Yes mate, I'll do it now! Time has been a bit tight, but I always intended to do a CUE file when I had some free time.
"Best one so far" (!), coooooool! Has a slightly different feel to it, so I was intrigued to see how it turned out.

Thats exactly what I was aiming for! Brooding and tense start. Using the metaphor of the weather is perhaps the best way to describe it! By having this sort of introduction the subsequent portions sound positively sparkling and full of hope in comparison. Hopefuly.

Volume 11 is when the mix starts to introduce more tempo and melodies yeah. To use the metaphor of the weather its as if the first rays of sunlight are breaking through! Mango's remix of 'Surrounded By the Seas' is just pure awesome, such high hopes for this producer, he can produce beautiful, lush soundscapes that move me consistently. And yes Erosion is massive!

Practice certainly makes perfect, but passion and love for the music is the most important factor and you seem to have that so you will have no probs!
Fantastic review mate, thoroughly enjoyed reading it and discussing the points. Have a good vacation!

thanks for the cue sheet. i took a nice drive last night just to listen to it. one thing i did notice. there are few small spots during the set where it sounds like a cd skipping. most noticeable during track 12 where it happens a few times. i've tried re-downloading a few times to the same result. anyone else get that?

Posted by specialistsound on Sep-08-2007 17:09:

thanx again man
as i said before about ur other mixes, absolute quality.

Yes sorry about the minor skipping. Its because of the recording. However on track 12, it was the mp3 that I purchased itself which was skipping! Not impressed A bloody nightmare to mix... Its a shame, but not a lot I could do about that!
I still have the set saved so may re-record at a later date and see if I can get rid of any skipping. Cheers

wow big mix this one. Big tunes and masterfully mixed. I knew 3-4 of them which is always good and they were also tracks I really like.

I would not worry about the skipping, shows that it was done live which is always a big plus for me.

You certainly have a brilliant knack of mixing in all the right spots and never losing the energy of the set. It has been said before but I will say it again - This is pro stuff !!

top notch cheers.
