Ableton in the Car

I was just thinking about this.
Ableton djing on a laptop with a car audio adapter.
Good for long rides (with a passenger or more of course.)

Anyone done this yet?

Posted by discobiscuit on Sep-07-2007 02:22:

yes, i did it with the ipod wireless adapter (the one you sync in the radio) connected to my laptop. it worked fine.

I've tried doing it while I've been playing halo 2. that was hard enough. no thx.

edit: oh. you meant the passenger. no, haven't.

i get motion sick in the car so easy!!! ive made attempts but can never play a track or two without getting sick.

In long car rides I pretty much always take my laptop and a pair of headphones, unless the other person is interested most car head units have aux-in on the front nowdays...

I find that I have to constantly look up at the horizon or else ill get motion sickness though, not just with the laptop but with reading or anything inside the car lol.

I have a life plan to eventually install a twin rackmount CD player in my glovebox. It'd be rude.

Although this might be superceeded by some kind of crazy touch screen and an appropriate bit of DJ software.

I was just thinking of that the other day.

Ableton + tablet pc.

Come on... as if that wouldn't be so freakin fun!?

closest I've come is mixing a set in traktor on the laptop, hooked up to the stereo through the aux input. Ate up a couple of hours on an 11 hr drive from FL->TX

yes i have done it, its a lot of fun. i couldn't figure out how to cue though (my external sound card isn't bus powered0

i actually opened ableton in the car today.... at least thought i could get some warping done.... but no, too much glare

As a concept to have fun its kind of cool, but just don't let anyone see you. After a lonnnnng period of adaptation, people stopped nagging you Abbleton guys about doing less. (i know, i know i'm not saying this but you know what i mean.) Now that it isn't cool to hate on it anymore you are going to mix and drive? God you guys would be asking for it. Enough people want to be DJ's as is, next thing you know it will also balance checkbooks and do laundry. (Unfotunately everone will still be playing Sammim - Heater)

I have long been thinking about having a fold out dual rackmount cd player with a small mixer that folds out of the glovebox. I remember talking at length to Adam South/West about this when we were driving up to PVD once....4 years ago or so ago.

Problem is I don't have enough DJ friends to ride along and dj, so it'd never get used...that's the only reason I haven't implemented it.

If that new Pacemaker gadget is decently priced and has a playlist or shuffle play function, I'm going to build a car mount for it. It's like the iPod for... well... me.

I want to find the worlds biggest penny, put it in the boot, pull it back to wind up the spring and let it go!

Penny Racers FTW!

Great idea...more ways to be distracted while driving...even more distracting than a cell phone. Okay if someone else is driving but if your driving + mixing at the same time = major accident + lots of money lost if damaged while in the accident.

Come on mate, anyone thinking of doing something like that while driving is stupid in more ways than 1. I doubt anyone here was intent on that.

Bas' car has a hookup, we're gonna try this out on our next roadtrip, could be fun.

Nobody's that stupid...at least I hope. I was talking about having the passenger use the equipment.

Okay if that's the case..then fine. Wasn't clear if you were talking about driving + mixing...big no no like I said. As stupid as some of these people who drive while texting or with headphones on.

How does having headphones on distract driving?

Posted by all-nite-freak on Sep-09-2007 11:08:

I think everyone that steals ableton, gets 10 tracks on soulseek that they saw on the first page of beatport, should bring their laptop into the bathtub to make their im the next superstar mix with sammim heater in it.(plug the lappy in, because top 100 dj's dont use batteries.)

headphones= not hearing emergency vehicles and idiots who are trying to merge when you are in their blindspot would not hear your horn and the brick you threw at them crash through the window.
