House vs Trance?

Hey yall, I know that House is more popular than Trance here in Miami but could any one tell me why?

Also, some friends of mine believe that one can not become a popular DJ if you play Trance here and that you have to play House. I know thats not true but is there place here where Trance can or does thrive?

Im asking this because I want to become a Miami Trance DJ.

You can become a great Trance Dj no matter where you live If you wanna become famous only in Miami then become a House Dj. But then again you will become just another house dj from Miami. I mean 90% of the population of Miami is a house Dj I say play what you want . If you really love it and feel it there is a better chanceof you makin it rather than if you are a dj just cause thats what everyone is into. You choose.

just make/play what you like.
if u like both house and trance.. why not warm up your own set with house then play trance?

cause he'll clear the dancefloor quicker than a bomb threat unless the crowd likes trance. if its at a monthly trance event then heck, go for it. otherwise its generally house music in all of town.

I DONT THINK HOUSE IS BIGGER THAN TRANCE OR VICE VERSA (GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC NO MATTER THE STYLE OR GENRE)

FACTS ARE THAT MUSIC TRENDS CHANGE & MOST IMPORTANTLY EVOLVE

& FOR THE MOST PART TRANCE MUSIC HAS NOT EVOLVED

HOUSE HOWEVER HAS FROM TRIBAL TO ELECTRO, TECH TO MINIMAL

I ALSO FEEL THAT DRUGS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE (NO PUN INTENDED)

SO JUST LIKE EVERYONE SAID, FOLLOW YOUR HEART & PLAY WHAT YOU WANT

BEST OF LUCK

I just started djing myself and I stay around the area. House is indeed the bigger genre over here but I love trance, well tech trance to be in fact. I tell my friends all the time trance is better and has a better vibe well imo at least but they think other wise. They are all into the after hours music but hey it's good but I just love trance way more. Well at least they are booking more trance dj's now like Ferry at Mansion but booking SVD at Space was the best idea ever!

Thanks you guys for all the advice. Oh and please make the moderator happy by not making this topic into a flame war. That wasn't my intention for this thread.

Oh I know! lol but not everyone here has the same intentions. There are many different opinions on here & they usually don't compliment one another.

Glad you got your info though

I like music, good music.. as longest you know how to mix good music, you should be fine, and good music ranges from trance to house.

Can you believe Danny Tenaglia played Trance in the Carl Cox tent @ Ultra?? ( Obviously it was like 2-3 tunes, but he threw them into the set )I would think you won't, be he did.. and I was shocked, and people loved it. ;-)

I love both genre's and i like all the different styles of house & trance so that's why i play a little bit of everything. But remember, you can't please everyone all the time. Just play what you like.

MDamon will tell you to go out and play house
only 'cos he loves house and Oscar G is his favorite dj...

Hell, he even loves to eat special brownies while listening to it!

Wow !! He was so stoned we told him he wasnt stoned and he believed it

honestly what really determines your success is not what you play..but how you play it. like koky said, 90% of miami plays house..but only 3 or 4 main ones are constantly in and out of clubs because of the fact that they generate a big listener base with their style.

as long as you keep your track selection and sound fresh..and can smoothly keep the beats going..you will do fine =) house or trance.

the only problem, is that dj's solicit free djing to clubs for the chance in gaining promotion. when they leave, they are none the more popular, and have just literally given money to the club for not charging to play. when you feel you are at the right skill level to consistently play at clubs, know your worth and stand by it! even if it means passing gigs by because they want to severely slash your price down to what they feel is deserved.

hope that helps!

house or trance? how about house AND trance =) variety is the spice of life.

don't want to start any flames but other genres of electronic music are evolving and become more original, trance is not. just for comparison, i listened to a trance set before '05 the other day. pure bliss. listened to a set like couple days ago. boring garbage with absolutely no originality. almost as if originality left trance forever.
