WTF is Sasha Doing?

I am listening to his essential mix Live @ Cream Amnesia (08-11-07), and it's really amazing.

I haven't heard a set like this in years, it's really nice, and the best thing, is that I don't knwo exactly what is he doing with the tracks.
I guess he is taking ableton to the next level.

His technique is unique.

I'm suprised so many people seem to be going so crazy over this...personally I liked Bonnaroo much more and don't care for the EM and some of his more recent sets. Not that they've been that bad, they just seem really average and routine.

Not so much, no.

Meh, I really liked his new EM. REALLY liked it. Is he doing anything revolutionary with Ableton however, no, not at all.

Whatever he is doing sounds beautiful & unique.

The gist of what he does is just play track-to-track and add a bit of effects. Sometimes he goes beyond that but even then it's just layering a couple of tracks. I go see locals every weekend that make what Sasha does look like much less than child's play.

I haven't use ableton, so I thought maybe it was the reason why it sounded so unique.
I ahven't heard any of the tracks before, only I have heard Pryda - Ironman, so maybe the tracks are just insanely sick and unique.

I just love the sound and progression on this mix, it is definitely special.

Seen sasha on saturday.

not my thing really. All very baws. left 30 minutes into his set. behrouz on before him was magic but.

Posted by Az on Sep-08-2007 19:25:

he's just playing epic trance, but 10 bpm slower
I'm sure there was a quote a few years back from him taking the piss out of excessive snare rolls

I'm not really a fan of the EM either. He got the crowd going.

Bonnaroo = best Sasha set in recent times...

And yeah, he's not doing much in ableton, but the technical way it is setup is quite impressive.

I haven't heard the bonnaroo set yet, so I'm going to give it a listen.

What exactly do you mean with "The technical way it is setup", is it just that he has a wonderful equipment, but he is not doing anything with the xtras of his equipment (Like Having a Xone 92, with a box effect, and he is just using the eq buttons, not filters and effects, and any advantage that the equipment has over a simple low class mixer)?

Is there anything on the EM Mix that could not be done with a pair of CDJ's and a mixer?

i don't understand why he has all that motivation with ableton, it doesn't teach or inspire anyone pretty much. Its audio is very watery like with huge amounts of distortion. Doing all that trickery on an imac doesn't really mean anthing if it doesn't touch one's soul. And removing climatic breakdowns by warping track is a dis to the artist who made the tracks and using a master tempo is just lazyness. The old school hypnotic sasha using analogue vinyl was the dopest
