^^^What he said about the bombing thing.
But I think some of the booing has to do with the fact that it was Canada. Americans (especially the males (sports)) are not usually very fond of the French and the Canadians. I dunno why. Read Maxim, there are at least 5 jokes per issue about Canada & France. Watch "The Man Show". At least 2 jokes per episode. I think Canada is thrown in just cus of it's French background, but I dunno why Americans hate Fance or Canada! lol.
Anyway, I'm not meaning any dis respect myself. I have nothing against anyone. I'm just informing

Nothing is cool about war, but I must say that the United States has a damn good military and does a great job of not hitting civilians, innocents, or allies. Mistakes are made in war, but I think the US doesn't make many (compared to any other Army involved in a conflict).
Our freedom is at stake here (yes Canadian's too) and people like you guys that give into the media anti-US hype are going to cause more people to die then those pilots who made that bombing mistake. Look, if it wasn't for those pilots dropping bombs right now, you probably wouldn't be able to go clubbing for fear of a suicide bombing, anthrax, or worse, lack of money due to a crushed economy.
Same thing for Isreal. You have every right to defend yourselves just as the US should defend itself.

or how about all those (almost 30,000) Guatemalans who were slaughtered during the eighties by your army... Oh I forgot.. your nation doesnt mediate these autrocites!! And lets not forget the other 200,000 iraqi civilians, vietnamese, and Rawandans too. Now do these look like mistakes to you?
im glad Cyrus King DOES know what hes talking bout, thanx for that reply, i wouldnt have pulled it off that nicely
and my point of where this thread would be headed has just been proven with cyrus's reply.
let me again state:

I think it won't become a ANTI-(anything) thread... or Canada vs America thread either. I understand your argument SOTHIS... however, we're not talking about the everyday "dissing" that occurs between Canadians and Americans. The problem I've found with many americans (not all, because so many are amazing individuals)is that they DO NOT seem to know when to draw the line between friendly sports competition & the reality of life. I mean c'mon!!! the booing of the Canadian national anthem?? the sad thing is that it's not the first or last time this will happen. The americans have always had difficulty showing respect for all other nations PERIOD. It may, in reality, have to do with the history of the USA in general...and their anger, fight, and dislike towards Britain, Canada, and the rest of the world as a whole. It's been their "Us against the world" mentality that has gotten a bit out of hand.
I for one do not expect and appology from anyone here for what happend in the war, or what happend at the game. I think he just wanted to stimulate thought and a response from the rest of the TA's.
Why is it that the Americans do this?

This is long, but I found it on some site written by a Canadian like 20 years ago.
The United States dollar took another pounding on German, French and British exchanges this morning, hitting the lowest point ever known in West Germany. It has declined there by 41% since 1971 and this Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least-appreciated people in all the earth.
As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtse. Who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did.
They have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. Today, the rich bottom land of the Mississippi is under water and no foreign land has sent a dollar to help. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of those countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.
When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When distant cities are hit by earthquakes, it is the United States that hurries into help... Managua Nicaragua is one of the most recent examples. So far this spring, 59 American communities have been flattened by tornadoes. Nobody has helped.
The Marshall Plan .. the Truman Policy .. all pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now, newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent war-mongering Americans.
I'd like to see one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplanes.
Come on... let's hear it! Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tristar or the Douglas 107? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all international lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or women on the moon?
You talk about Japanese technocracy and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times ... and safely home again. You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everyone to look at. Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, most of them ... unless they are breaking Canadian laws .. are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here.
When the Americans get out of this bind ... as they will... who could blame them if they said 'the hell with the rest of the world'. Let someone else buy the Israel bonds, Let someone else build or repair foreign dams or design foreign buildings that won't shake apart in earthquakes.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble.
Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbours have faced it alone and I am one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles.
I hope Canada is not one of these. But there are many smug, self-righteous Canadians. And finally, the American Red Cross was told at its 48th Annual meeting in New Orleans this morning that it was broke.
This year's disasters .. with the year less than half-over has taken it all and nobody...but nobody... has helped
first of all I'd like to apologize to those who are taking this harshly.......I'm simply pointing out that the behavior of the individuals at that basketball game were very inappropriate, even if no one died booing any national anthem is very disrespectful since it is a national symbol
here a few other points:
1. u say that the conflict in afghanistan affects 'our' freedom, if u have any knowledge about politics and the situation at hand u will know that this terrorism is in fact target at the US and US ONLY.........it began years ago and is an ongoing conflict (bombing of US embassy's/government establishmenst worldwide)......if I am correct the whole thing began when the US sent its troops onto the 'terrorists' holy land........which was under extremist rule and was considered a huge violation
2. the US spends billions on defence each year, this particular bomb was laser guided, meaning pin-point accuracy, the pilot flew over the target twice, IT WAS NOT EVEN A COMBAT AREA, it was a training ground for the canadian forces
3. so over all the americans are doing the bashing
4. the reply "why don't u call them and ask.......", very mature response, I'm guessing your about 16
5. cars get broken into everywhere
6. american citizens are know for their pride/cockiness/high-self esteem
7. the population is growing in size because the US is the wealthiest and quickly expanding country, attracting immigrants from all over the world
.................
I can go on for ever........but unfortunatelly not many of u are capable of a mature discussion

what i am about to say is from about as neutral a point of view as one can have. during the invasion down here in panama in 1989, the US brought down some 33,000 soldiers to fight a 'war' against a meager 2,000. What where they supposed to do? stop a dictator from gaining power (this same man was also a CIA operative, and had some negotiations with bush), and to protect american civilians in panama. Well, i can say that i have seen first hand how the US handles its matters, and even if they are fighting for the good of their country and people, i can tell you right now, that for the small amount of americans that died ( i think somewhere around 30+ people? like 33?) thousands of panamanians died. innocent ones at that...why? because the US used EXCESSIVE military force, and fuckedup here and there. So in my opinion, i find the US to NOT have to good a military in the sense that they are aware of what is around them. ok.. that is enough from me.
blik, or some other moderator, you should close this thread.. its going nowhere.

| quote: |
It was a mistake..i dotn think anyone doubts that...but from what is told...the U.S. pilot saw HEAVY gun fire down below and THOUGHT it was Al Queda rebels...he was unaware of ANY training excercise taking place by any allies and when he asked over the radio the command base was aware either...so he made a judgement call and decided to drop a bomb...it was a mistake that ened in trajedy....but it has NOTHING to do with him being from the U.S. Army...that could of happened anywhere by any country man.... |

and as far as the U.S. Military being any good...are you kidding me...we are one of the best...that is a fact.... |

well there is another false statement...who are u to speak for the rest of the world?..... |

its amazing how so many people do however speak poorley about the U.S. and out government and military...yet the majority of time when a little dimky country needs help...who do they turn to but the U.S. |

and it is always broadcasted world-wide when the U.S. military makes a mistake like this one...but thats only because we are a super-power and have cameras and the such shwoing it all happen,..unlike most countries who go to war and its all unknown to the public and not on the front page of the newspaper...do you HONESTLY beleive that the U.S. is the only military to foul up and kill civilians...if you do then your far from the truth.... |
| quote: |
And 1 more thing that i have to say that ALWYAS amazes me about U.S. bashers..they always preach how everyone hates the U.S. and this and that...but u know what strikes me as being funny>?..well its the fact that MORE people a year move to the U.S. and wanna be AMERICAN citizens then and other country in the world EVER in history...how many times have you heard someone say i wanna move to Canada, China or South Africa because of the oppurtunities....i mena people do of course but nowhere near int eh amount of people begging to be American citizens...so recheck all your statements about your little fact that the entire world shares your view....its simply not true...but who am i right |

Did you know that the world would be 100% Nazi controlled if it wasn't for the US? |
