Would you revoke your citizenship if...?

Would you revoke your citizenship and immigrate if your government became totalitarian?

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-11-2007 01:37:

it's emigrate.

Posted by Sunsnail on Sep-11-2007 01:48:

True, but to emigrate you have to immigrate.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-11-2007 02:06:

yes, but in the context of the poll, its emigrate.

Emigrate and fight from exile, assuming I still control my own assets and for my family's future.
Probably give a different answer if I was single or if the government had already seized everything.

emigrate, immigrate, assume its the same thing. You leave ur country and immigrate into another.

My answer would depend heavily on the nature and character of the tyrant.

Where's the "Stay and become the oppressor" option?

Meh, I don't really care that much for my citizenship anyway...

8 out of 13 will probably die.

3 out of 13 could potentially make a difference.

2 out of 13 just don't care.

0 out of 13 would become oppressed... which is the most interesting statistic of all. Because there are no votes here, I have a feeling that many people don't truly understand the nature of themselves and the "pack mentality". We're already oppressed on many levels, afterall.

Einstein was in the second group, by the way. So were the blacks who fought the south during the civil war.

Anne Frank was in the first category. So was Brutus and Cassius.

Millions, the common denomitors, occupy the third and fourth ranks, whether you admit and realize it to yourself or not. I'd be willing to bet *most* (>50%) people would kill their neighbor if told by an authoritarian power to do so. Not necessarily out of malice, but we've a long way to come as a species... lots of growing up to do.
