the 700mhz spectrum?

I don't know if this is extremely political, but it went to the House (a while ago), but I don't understand why it did.
What is so important about the 700mhz spectrum that it required a Vote for decimation by 2009?
Does it have to do with the US DHS and limiting the abilities+capabilities for someone to launch pirate feeds ala:
(and instead account for everyone viewing habits via Digital)?

i didn't know the spectrum was going to be forced out but i know part of that spectrum is up for sale right now.

maybe it similar to to UHF/VHF signals impending obsolescence seeing as how most wireless networks today operate at faster freqs?

maybe the technical aspects of hi-jacking in that spectrum has become fairly easy to do?

It has a lot more to do with the FCC's mandate from changing analog signals to digital ones.

Those good ole UHF / VHF signals that currently get picked up by the bunny ears and TV towers on people's houses will soon all be obsolete and useless.

The UHF / VHF bandwidth that's left behind is already being auctioned off to the highest bidders to make way for consumer equipment and other goodies...

Who gives a fuck?

I'll jam their frequencies if I feel like it, and so will anyone else or any government needing to do so. There's weaknesses in every technology, and I'm sure I could think of many ways to completely destroy long range wireless vital communications.

That's the new war. What are you going to do with a guided missile if the telecommunication frequency is jammed?

EDIT: Even scarier. You're a hacker for whatever government. What's the best target you can decode and stick packets into to alter courses/etc?

Military and space units.
