Dustin....you would have been happy with the music.
All and all the night was great despite some issues. I wanted to see MANDY b/c I was expecting great music that I had never heard before....and that is what I got.
We got to Shelter at about 12am and got fucked with sand paper by MADE Events....$30 bucks. Either way I did not care b/c I was not missing MANDY. Adultnapper started things off well, played some very grooven tech house stuff that makes my pants move. His mixing could have def. been better but it was nothing to make you stop dancing. At about 2am MANDY came on to about 100 people...little surprised by the lack of support but I was dancing my ass off so I did not care. The 7 of us had fun and I was loving the track selection....just what I expected...far out tech minimal stuff that I had not heard before.
Now I am a glass 1/2 full kind of guy. But the mixing was HORRIBLE. I am not sure if it was the turntable that was messed up the, the needles or if the Final Scratch vinyl was scratched but every time Patrick tried to mix into the table on his left ....it was trainwreck city. I felt bad for him but then I remembered he got paid a few grand to be there so o well. It was def. not his fault but both he and the club should have had backup for stuff like that. Eather bring CD's or the club should have had an extra turntable b/c for 30 bucks I should hear mixing better then that. Even when I play Ableton out I still have a CD in the CD player ready to go if shit hits the fan.
I was loving the music but the birthday boy and the rest of my crew were not feeling it. So by 4am we bounced to Pacha to see.....( i know I know) Boris. Not my call and not my birthday so I was not going to be a dick. Boris was mixing like crap as well....go figure. But the place was PACKED with all of the stereotypical NYC clubbers. My g/f only got grabbed a few times and I only got shoved three times so I considered not all that bad. Played a lot of harder tech stuff and dropped some Dubfire at about 6 am that was making me dance.
We left Pacha at 7ish and I was home in bed by 10am with a beer. So who wants to see MANDY with me at the WMC??? Dustin??
Nice review. Too bad to hear about the mixing but at least you go to hear some out there shit. I can't believe there were only 100 people there! That sucks! Oh well, as long as they are at WMC when I am there, I will be in attendance!
the monitors at shelter suck.
when i seen M.A.N.D.Y. at shelter with Lee last year..they trainwrecked almost every other song too...weird
