I'm not sure what it was in particular that has driven me so much the past few weeks when it comes to music, but for some reason I really have just been having as much fun as ever digging for and spinning new tunes. This set kind of happened on accident, after struggling for a week or so with what kind of ideas I wanted to kick around for a fall set, I decided to screw around a bit in Ableton and found an intro I really liked, recorded it, mixed into my decks, and just went from there. After the first shot through I was pretty pleased, but there were some things that needed to be fixed, and as we subsequently lost our internet connection and TV, I quite literally had nothing better to do than finish it up, head to campus, and upload it to SendSpace at 4mb/second.
Random details: There are a few really minor edits in here, but nothing at all substantial, and most done with loops in either Ableton or on CDJ 800's - if you have any questions feel free to ask. Some of the mixing is a bit "edgy" (perhaps a la Tiesto
) but in general, I think I got across what I wanted to.
Thanks again to all the TA DJ's in MWTA and the promo forum for their inspiration these past few weeks - and as always, feedback is great.
Artwork and a link are both tentatively coming

Thoroughly enjoyed this mix - Will definitely be giving it plenty more listens
It's been a while, I'm so down...
Permanent link is up, massive thanks to Sushi and everyone else who has grabbed this
well rob. i like this, however it doesn't give me that feel that some of your previous mixes has. i mean who couldn't forget that genius move of whacking in electro hairspray.... ok, enough of beating that dead horse.
nah, but ehhm, no, it's good, but really not your best effort. although, it's cool that you admit about your "creative mixing talents".
just had a listen to the mix. i thought it was pretty good up until dj gregory's elle then you started to lose me a little bit towards the end. overall, i thought you did a good job with the flow. thought the last track was a great choice to close the mix as well.
downloading now and will fap to it later
I can host if you'd like...
edit: nvm

You did pretty good. I like most of the tracks you use. The Ame track would have better served to wind things down instead of being so early, but im nitpicking. Some of the mixing is outside of the box (In a good way) I would much rather hear a transition that is different even if it isnt perfect than a flawless mix with nothing more then outro/intro mixing. (fucking people who dont realize that 10 minute plus tracks aren't supposed to be played for 10 minutes piss me off.) I'll agree that your last one was way better, but i like this one more because it was unconventional. Douchebag or not it really wasn't bad.
(ps Stevieboy calling someone a bastard for using a track that has been out that long is so 1996.I love it just had to bust Stevies balls.)
Thanks for the thoughts Jay - I guess my feeling on the set is probably closer to yours than any of the other posters in that while it isn't perfect, it's definitely a good indicator of the kind of music I'm enjoying playing/hearing right now. As far as the mixing goes, I guess I've just gotten to a point where (as you said) I don't need flawless mixing, it just needs to be interesting (whether it's from myself or someone else).
Beyond that, I smoke a lot of pot. A lot. So yeah, that's probably clouding my DJ judgment here a bit as well - I just don't seem to really want to play the records that will get people up and dancing their asses off anymore, I just lean towards to chill/ethereal sounding stuff.
In any event, thanks again m8. ![]()
Also, I posted this in the MWTA forums, and thought it might shed a bit of light on my perspective on this set for those of you who see it as a bit of a departure for me:

Thanks to everyone who's given it a listen - I know you guys have all seen very different work from me over the years, and I appreciate that even though some of you don't like where I'm going with it, you still give it a shot |
downloading, hopefully will be able to listen tonight!
lots of tracks i don't know and can't wait to hear.
Rob, I really enjoyed this mix. It has the feeling of a live set much more - specifically one of the bedroom sessions sets. Also I think it is a classic example of RJT, not the exception or something really different. There were several 'RJT' moments in the mix, several tracks that I would associate with your mixes at first listen.
eg the track around 52 minutes - sounds just like Kayot - Clear Sky (Manoo & Francois A Remix), which you played last summer in your promo. (i must seem like a stalker lol) anyways that sort of quirky, loose, jiggly, housey, playful sound is what I usually associate you with. another track like that is the diffracted dub of new light you played this summer.
if mixes were like paintings, yours would have a very broad palette. I appreciate that your mixes run the gamut of emotional experience, and that's probably why I like what you do as much as I do.
all of your mixes have a very good sense of thematic unity despite the variety, but of them all, this one seems to be the one where the mix as a whole is more important than the tracks themselves.
You really had me going from track seven or so, I bought the progression completely. The changes are welcome and fresh.
Your mixes tend to have some sort of of midlife crisis and I like to see how they end up afterwards
I'm thinking of when you played Moby - Go in the last one, or at 55 minutes in this one. It's all good. I value the difference. 'Evolution' isn't always affected by tiny events.
nice one!
I dunno what you mean about not playing ass shakin stuff, I'm at track 6 and these two Okain tracks are fucking my ass UP. Never heard of Okain before, sick stuff.
Will report back when done but I dont see how this could get any worse...
The only critique so far is that I would have maybe added something that could pick it up a little sooner before the Will Saul track, this started off very slow and nice and it kind of got a kick-start at the will saul track, maybe a tad too soon.

Couple of interesting tunes that caught my attention but generally, this is a solid, but not really spectacular set.
I didn't find the 'edgy' mixing to be too big of an annoyance.
Come to think of it, I wasn't paying too close of an attention as I was just droning along. Good background type of set.
I think this mix is a simple case of the tunes at hand just not working out.
The style is evident, the tunes aren't bad- it just doesnt take make any place like some of your previous efforts.
Good work though, and I def found out about a couple cool tracks.
Are you saying it needs a big breakdown somewhere?
I wouldn't mind a big breakdown somewhere.
I like those points in a mix where you get into a tune after a clean mix which is almost un-noticeable, and then theres a big break, and while being sucked into a build you ask yourself "How the fuck did we end up here?"
I don't know.. to be honest I've been off breakdowns lately
