Ah, yes, the 45 adapter. Possibly the most useless thing you'll ever see.

what does it do?

Posted by Orbital32 on Sep-17-2007 01:08:

it allows you to play ole' skewl records with the big holes in the middle.

Posted by Domesticated on Sep-17-2007 01:10:

It's a small, round metal block that you put in the middle of the turntable so that records like this will play:

Posted by Saint John on Sep-17-2007 01:12:

ah...i always used it to put the little plastic things that go over the cartidge in and hold...alright thanx mate for the explanation..def the most useless piece ever

Posted by IntegraR0064 on Sep-17-2007 03:02:

Most useless for a DJ at least. If you're trying to play vintage records, it's an essential piece of equipment.

I used to think it was a tiny cup holder.

I drop 7" records all the time. That piece definitely is not useless for a diverse dj.

Bullshit.

To be dropping 7 inch records with the middle that big you'd need to be playing tracks older than 30 years. Certainly my mum's vinyl collection which begun being built at the turn of the 70s had the 'modern day' smaller hole at the centre, the same as the vinyl we all play today.

Records used to have a detachable centre also for jukeboxes to be able to handle them easier, so it's possible that some records post 70s had the centres removed, but manually so, rather than being produced and manufactured like this.

So pray tell, Mr Diverse, what tracks are you dropping that warrant the use of this converter??

7inch I don't have a problem with believing, centre removed..... a little more so - unless you're a total potato headed spak muncher who's removed it himself.

yeah +1 i went through my dads all records back when he was in college (lie a couple of million years ago) and none have the centre hole hout

It's the eTard puck. It's included so you can chunk it at a rolling retard after he bumps the decks.

Slingshot optional

I fit in a lot of the stuff from the 80s in my sets. Back then the 7" was pretty popular for singles and a bit later punk rock remixes; however, I don't think the ones from the punk canon are bound to have big holes.

Usually when I hit up the record store I dig through the 7"s before I dig through the 12"s because they go for about a dollar.

Posted by Watts on Sep-19-2007 04:09:

Remember that the 7"s I got were singles and were bound to end up in a jukebox at some point in time.

there's generally a reason y records go for a dollar

Posted by Watts on Sep-19-2007 04:17:

To be honest with you guys I rarely see a 7" record with a small hole (and I've done a lot of crate digging). 10" sure, but not 7".

Posted by all-nite-freak on Sep-19-2007 05:04:

it isnt useless because not everyone buying decks is a dj now are they.

but fucking lol @ these threads in here lately.

ps...many singles in the 80's still had the large holes. I have a 4000+ record collection would you like to argue?

Posted by Watts on Sep-19-2007 14:07:

I have an extensive collection in the thousands as well and I stand by what I have said about 7" singles with small holes. The ones I have come across have not been singles.
