Moments of understanding new music?

Anyone go through these? It's like evolution, it takes place in segments. For example a long time ago I heard the hype about Sasha's Xpander; I listened to it and I got nothing out of it. I kept it around would listen to it once in a while until it finally made sense and I enjoyed it. I listened to that song at least everyday for a few years.

That happened to me and John Coltrane's Giant Steps. First time I heard it I thought it was a mess of sounds and difficult to listen to and the none day it all made sense.

Sometimes, but not too much.

I had to listen to Nick & Danny Chatelain's Is Killing Me about six times before I liked it. A club system makes a big difference.

I can confidently say that if I like an album the first time I hear it, there's a 90% chance its going to be crap in a couple of weeks. My most favouritist albums (non electronic included) always took me weeks and sometimes months to get into. But once you're sucked in, there's no way you're getting out.

Anyone else notice that you really enjoy the songs (i.e. you dont really get sick of it) that you figure out yourself?

always! and like someone above said, if I like it at once, its probably some catchy shit that I dislike in a few listenings, and most of my favorite compilations/tracks took several listenings before I got how great the music was.

the sad thing is the number of tracks/compilations I've deleted after a first listening that could possibly be a gem

Well all music is a translation of the artist's intentions to get across a piece of his of her mind at a current point. To them, it captured (or should have!) a piece of something they wanted to share.

So all music has something to offer if you can come close to the artist's state of mind when they wrong the track... often we don't think open mindedly enough to do this, though, and there is a vast volume of music out there...

When I listened to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony all the way through (everybody knows the first movement, but it's not the best one), I understood classical music.

I did when I started listening to music. There were a lot of styles, artists and songs I had to hear many times to "get". Now I'm used to hearing a piece of music on its own terms, rather than expecting certain things from it.

That track was meant for a club. That build is incredible, the way it teases you. Almost as incredible as 'Pablo Assan's'.

this happened to me with desyn masiello - balance 008. i still liked prog house back then and i only liked cd 2 but part of it and i didnt like cd 1 and didnt listen to it for some time. dug it back up and its one of my favorite cds, and i like disc 1 better now, still listen to it like once a week.

So true. I really wish i had a list of all the stuff i've deleted.

It took a very long time to get into house and classical, but now I really like both.

I second what have been stressed so far, but for me, the best albums among my fav albums were good from the beginning. I've always loved Sasha's Involver, but I think I only really understood it a few weeks ago. I was travelling to Paris, I was in the good mood, at the good place. Perfect moment.
