COR version: Meteorite falls near village, then villagers (including policemen who try to investigate) get sick.

if i saw a meteor fall in my back yard, id probably concatc the cdc (center of despise control) and get the hell away from it.

Quite possibly, the meteor reacted with earthly elements to create toxic gases and/or particulate matter which dispersed when the meteor hit the ground.
