At The Controls 4: Agoria

quote:

he fourth volume of the 'At the Controls' series will be mixed by French electroist Agoria.

Agoria is known for his noisy, eclectic take on dance music, as demonstrated on his big singles 'Les Beaux Jours' and Stereolove as well as last year's longplayer 'The Green Armchair'. As a DJ, Agoria is inclined to throw a few curveballs into his mixes: his debut mix CD 'Cute & Cult' dropped Iggy Pop's 'Nightclubbing' halfway through, while his 2CD 'At the Controls' mix features tracks by fifties electronic whiz Raymond Scott and goth rockers Bauhaus amid more up-to-the-minute techno and house selections.

The 'At the Controls' series has previously featured volumes by James Holden, M.A.N.D.Y. and Claude Von Stroke.

FARK YEAH! Im amped, possibly the first mix compilation im quite excited to hear about in a while

Total respect to a DJ/producer who doesn't self promote, and no its not a bad thing (anticipating flaming) its just something thats a bit uncommon imo.

Some nice looking tunes in there I actually like Holdens...

Oh yeah, I remember now. Yeah, I heard it I think once and it was gash, and Mandy's had no flow whatsoever. Holden's I liked though, even when it went through drastic tempo changes.

Never heard an Agoria mix, and the tracklist looks interesting enough. Some tracks I'm kinda tired of, but it looks like it could be eclectic enough.

14. Telepopmusik - Love Can Damage Your Health (Abicah/Dennis Ferrer Remix)
15. Guy Gerber & Chaim - My Space

Hmmm ... interested to see how this turns out. As a whole it looks pretty unique, I'll definitely give it a chance.

I rate Agoria as a producer, and this looks like a very interesting tracklist. I'm really looking forward to this one..

Agoria has really come along as a producer in the last while. Looking forward to see what he comes up with for this mix comp.

Having 'Fairmont - Flight Of The Albatross' in it is a good sign....what a beautiful track.

He said in some interview that the concept of his ATC mixes was several friends getting together, hanging out, and just playing some good tracks. The mixing and flow on there definitely isn't the smoothest but after reading that it was easier for me to get past the mixing. It's now one of my all time favourite mix compilations.

And for the record, Holden's ATC had a couple flaws but was still *great*.

Looks very tastey!

i really liked Holden's. Haven't heard the other two. I'd never even heard of Agoria before. He has some very nice tracks on his myspace, especially that one with the violin.

Aural orgasms.

This is on the same level of awesomeness as Holden's Balance.

Fucking legendary.

Glad to hear it, now I'm really looking forward to this one

I've found two links, both expired

Would really like to hear the EM too, tracklist looks sex.

I like disc two quite a bit. Disc one kind of drags for me at points (disc two does as well, but not as much), maybe I need to listen to it more.

Sometimes the mixing is effective, sometimes great, and at some points god awful.

disc one:

6.5/10

disc two:

7.5/10

Not too bad, but I still like Holden's.

You're right about the mixes. Some of them were totally cringeworthy (Tuesday Paranoia --> Smile And Recive) but all of them were on the 1st CD.

The second disc, however, was just pure bliss for me. I haven't noticed any bad transitions on there and the flow was awesome even when it's all over the place - from rock, to hip-hop and from dubstep to tech-house. Wonderful journey.

Meh, I wasn't too huge a fan of the mix out of Flight of the Albatross. I assume he couldn't really do much better given Massage Situation being the way it is, but the mix was only effective and nothing more. It also abruptly halted the flow for me. Albatross seemed like such a build and then there's a sudden halt.

Interesting. Thanks for mentioning this.

That's what i loved with Holdens, the genre diversity. If it's anything like it, i'm thrilled.
