TAPS IDOL - Week 1 - Guitar Hero !

Rules for the entire tournament:

Competition rules:

Contestants must submit their entries by midnight each Monday
(tranceaddict forum time), sending an email with a download link to
[email protected]. Then we will put all the mp3s into one zip
file and post a download link in the forum thread.

Interested people can then download the file and listen to all the
entries. Voters pick their top 5 entries (or one less entry than there
are contestants remaining, in the later rounds) and send Votes via
email to [email protected] by midnight on the Wednesday (tranceaddict forum time).

Once all the votes have been received the overall results will be posted (as well as how each person voted - it's best to have an open, transparent voting system) Voting order is important - 1st vote gets 5 points, 2nd vote 4 points, down to the 5th vote being worth 1 point.

Each week the person with the least points is eliminated. If there are
contestants with equally low points scores, we take into consideration
who got more points in the previous week - if that was also equal, the
week before that. If it's impossible to split them, all the
contestants with the equally low scores get dropped and less people
get dropped the next week.

SO HERE'S WEEK 1! GUITAR HERO: Use the samples linked below however you see fit, use as many or as little as you want of them. try and keep this as a prog house/prog trance bit if you can but genre can be something else. bpm range is acceptable, looking for melody, production quality and over all appeal. minimum length 1:30, maximum 3min

Okay...this is getting interesting...less than half an hour to go...no sign of any emails with download links.

My entry's done. Is anyone else going to meet the deadline?

WHAT?!?!?! 1/2 an hour? i though tranceaddict time is Eastern Standard Time.. wtf?!?!?!

Posted by derail on Sep-24-2007 13:10:

The forum time seems to be 9 past midnight according to my screen...what time is it on yours? Do I have the timing wrong?

(hmm...I'll check my inbox in the morning...maybe the time shows up differently on other people's computers? And there's no competition if there's only one entry...we might not even have to vote anyone out if someone decides to pull out by themselves...)

Posted by Zombie0729 on Sep-24-2007 17:12:

you have 8 hours as of right now, the cut off time is TA forum time which is US - Eastern Standard no worries guys, once we have all the mp3's i'll zip 'em up and send them over!

Anthony, i sent it to Fabian, should i email it to you as well?

Posted by derail on Sep-24-2007 21:52:

I'm quite happy to accept all the entries, zip them up and host them on my website.

Posted by derail on Sep-24-2007 22:11:

Okay, it seems there are timing issues. I have a few of the entries now, but according to my time it's now 8 past 8 in the morning and I'll be heading off to work soon. So anyone who hasn't submitted their "final entry" can do more work on it and resubmit it in the next 9 hours because I won't get a chance to zip them up and host them before then anyway.

So either we make the regular closing times around the time of this post (whatever time that happens to be for other people), which means I can zip them and host them before I go to work, or we make it around 9 hours after the time of this post, whichever works better for people.

You guys do realise the forum time displayed can be modified to your own timezone?

This could be causing the problem .

ok its 7:32pm right now... eastern standard time.. which means tranceaddict time..

the best thing i think is to stick to tranceaddict time.

(tranceaddict time is not the time that it shows on your posts)

this will give people in europe, asia and australia tons more time to finish their work while still giving the people of the western world enough time after work/school etc. to finish their entry.

it's all too confusing I think we should just stick to a city and use timeanddate.com/worldclock ... so say entries are due Monday 24th at 9 PM LA time or whatever.

BTW this weeks samples were interesting. They were not at all what I was expecting when I head guitar samples. I was hoping for something absolutely rocking like Hendrix voodoo child style or something. However, the minimal licks were great because promoted creativity IMO.

OK.. L.A. time = PST.. thats good!

is everyone ok with that?

Posted by derail on Sep-25-2007 08:57:

Okay, I've received 4 entries, here's a link to the zipped file:

Week One Entries

Hmm...so I guess we're down to 4 competitors? Anthony, have you finished your entry? You'll have to post a link to the file in this thread then. Same goes for JakeC, asfse - but the links will have to be up super quick to be considered, I waited until it should well and truly have been monday midnight everywhere... (I must admit, I did give my track a bit of a volume boost while I was waiting, it was sounding very quiet compared to the other entries...there are some excellent pieces in here! But I figured, it seems we won't have an elimination this week if not everyone enters, so I may as well just bring up my track's volume a little so people can listen to them all at roughly comparable loudnesses....I really have to do more work on compression, limiting and such...)

Let's just hold back on the voting for now, we may not need to. But we can definitely comment about each others tracks in this thread! Thanks heaps to everyone who submitted entries!

Lucky bastard. God, how I love So. Cal. ;-)

yeah so everyone made really good shit with more than one sample! i only stuck to one sample

good job everyone

Posted by derail on Sep-25-2007 21:39:

Anthony, I'd say let's let the four of us who met the deadline take a vote on this.

Speaking for myself, I'm very keen to see these deadlines enforced, rather than have each week turn into a "just hang on, I'll submit something tomorrow, definitely..." type thing, then I'm waiting for emails, wondering how long I should wait...it's a hassle, and it's not fair to the competitors who stuck to the agreed timeframe. We only have around 4 days to get each challenge done (although...we know what's up for the next weeks, except the acapella one, so we can get started on those already...)

It'd be good to have you in the competition, your music sounds cool. But in terms of how I'd like to see the competition run with regard to weekly deadlines, I'm going to have to say it's too late.

GT, D4Dirty, System101 - let's say if two of you give Anthony the thumbs up, he's back in the competition.

Posted by System101 on Sep-25-2007 22:04:

since its only the first week and we have very few competitors i'd like to see Anthony stay! His style is different from all of us and we truly do need more competitors. After this week, a strict deadline will be enforced and anyone not meeting that deadline will be disqualified, but with the mixup that occured this week perhaps we should give him until midnight tonight Pacific Standard Time?

edit:

"week 1 - guitar hero - best use of guitar samples(provided) in any kind of prog house/prog trance bit. bpm range is acceptable, looking for melody, production quality and over all appeal. minimum length 1:30, maximum 3min"

time restrictions: 1:30 - 3:00

D4Dirty and derail didnt follow strict guidelines so therefore they should be eliminated as well right? (i'm joking)

but as you can see the rules weren't followed very well so therefore LET ANTHONY PARTICIPATE lol

Hey, which rule did I break?

Yeah let him stay for sure after this confusion.. hope were not the only ones voting in this competition though.

your track is 3:52... it has to be between 1:30 - 3:00 according to the rules.
