Question Metroid Prime 3

There was another thread on it, but I can't seem to find it - though I seem to remember someone (chach?) saying it was brilliant.

It isn't. It was the biggest fucking waste of money I have ever made in my life.

Metroid in 3D = Awful. Period.

Do. Not. Want.

You have been warned.

I am just curious about this, how many of the other Metroids have you played?

I've grown up on the game and played/beat everyone on every console. I was tempted to get a Wii for this... but haven't yet.

Could you elaborate more on your discontent?

Posted by chach on Sep-20-2007 20:15:

Dude wtf the game is full of win. Ya elaborate a little more because this is the first time I've heard any one say this game is not up to par.

Posted by TweeK on Sep-20-2007 20:17:

I thought Gears of War was "the biggest fuckin waste of money in your life".

Your expectations are way to high. You need to chill more and stop giving excellent games shit reviews. Your giving everyone that might enjoy a perticular game the "bad impression". Just because it didnt meet your shitty expectations.

Posted by RJT on Sep-20-2007 20:18:

I love the Metroid series. 1, 2, Super, Fusion, Zero Mission - I've played and beat them all many, many times.

The Metroid Prime games, on the other hand, I have tried so fucking hard to get into, and they just fail every single time - and the Wii version is without a doubt the most complete failure of them all.

The control is utter balls, the atmosphere is stale and sterile (the mood is anything but "metroid"), and in general it just feels like a poorly controlled movie with loads of boredom and backtracking in it.

Awful in every sense of the word, I can't believe I initially chose it over Bioshock.

Edit: And Tweek, you can fuck right off with your "GOW" nonsense, the entire world has seen how shallow that game is - join the rest of us.

Posted by TweeK on Sep-20-2007 20:32:

lol.

Perphaps you will have more fun if you shove the Wii remote up your asshole.

Then you can come back on here and complain on how much Wii remote was no fun.

Posted by RJT on Sep-20-2007 20:42:

The thing is, I post as often if not more often about games I'm enjoying than the ones I don't like - it's just that this forum is so littered with gimp fanboys who can't take the slightest criticism, which leads to the incessant whining when anyone criticizes one of your precious franchises.

Posted by chach on Sep-20-2007 20:45:

Wtf how are the controls utter balls, probally used the wii controls better then any other games. And back tracking who cares every metroid "prime" games has had that no big deal. Is it to difficult are you getting frustrated? I really cant understand how you would act like this game is garbage. What were you expecting, a shitty pixelated side scrolling adventure??

Backtracking in bland environments that take way too long to traverse is far different than the kinds of backtracking done in the 2d games - and the controls are hardly intuitive and highly clunky. The game moves at a pace that makes me feel sea-sick.

And it was suprisingly far less difficult than either of the other two Prime games - just excessively boring.

Posted by RJT on Sep-20-2007 20:49:

And I would MUCH rather have a solid 2D platformer than the vast majority of shit that gets released these days.

Posted by chach on Sep-20-2007 20:53:

Meh, I like it.

Wanna come over and use our wii motes as dillys?

dude, I call BULLSHIT!!!

Thats just the Wii remote up your asshole talking.

Posted by mezzir on Sep-20-2007 22:53:

idk dude
i wasn't overwhelmed or anything, but i think its pretty good
and i had metroid prime 1 for the gamecube, and everything was amazing EXCEPT the controls, which were fucking horrendous
and please tell me you turned the sensitivity and dificulty to max, because until i did the game kinda sucked, but once i was able to turn at a rate that made sense and had to actually try, it got a lot better
idk, its seriously nothing that that amazing, but i think its pretty solid
and dont even get me started on bioshock

I'd love for you to start... either you like it or you don't, no big deal, but I'd love to hear why (I think I gave ample reason for not caring for this).

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-21-2007 00:17:

honestly, people that don't see the creative genius in bioshock know fuck all about game design.

Posted by Magnus on Sep-22-2007 23:47:

Loved the first Metroid Prime. 2 was a big disappointment, mainly because the developers clearly were lazy, using so many of the same enemies, sounds, and level design of the first one. It was more of an expansion pack than anything so I lost interest in it quickly. 3 looked almost just like the first 2. I sure hope at least this time they got new sound samples and all new enemy characters because otherwise that is some serious lazy mofos that make this series.

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Sep-23-2007 01:42:

I'm gonna be honest, I've heard from several people, many of which played and enjoyed at least one of the other Primes, that MP3 is a disappointment. After the novel Wiimote controls wear off, the game becomes bland and repetitive. This is SECOND-HAND, so dont give me shit on this, I'm just backing RJT and saying that his opinion isnt the only one like it.

I have a feeling a lot of Wii games are going to be like this, since developers think they can rely on the gimmicky "turn your wrist and something happens" approach. I just hope Super Mario Galaxy or, good god, the almighty Smash Bros Brawl dont follow similar paths. Im pretty sure SSBB is impossible to fuck up, though.

K, here's the thing. Bioshock is designed absolutely beautiful. The ambience, the graphics, the sound, its all gorgeous, no debate there. However, I found the gameplay to be fairly boring. Still better than a fair chunk of games, but nowhere near what i expected. I played it into the wee hours of the night the day I got it, about an hour the day after, and haven't had the slightest urge to go back to it. It was well designed all in all, but good graphics and good looking scenery aren't going to keep me playing when the actual action of the game's a bore. And don't tell me to play it under the right conditions, I was playing with a projector (~80" screen) and headphones turned way up in the dark.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-23-2007 23:19:

the gameplay is in the story and the ambience. the "action" of the game is merely there to keep you busy whilst you explore. and honestly, i have yet to see a shooter with more ways to deal with your enemies than bioshock. if you were playing the game simply for the shooter aspect im not surprised you were disappointed.

so whats the point of the game then?
i tried to treat it as more of a story-oriented game and shit but then the fighting is still just as tedious and annoying
idk, maybe i'll give it another shot
really really didn't impress me though

hey, it all comes down to personal taste really. but yeah, i found the storyline and maps so engrossing i didnt really consider the shooting all that important at all! i find the numerous ways in which you can kill enemies to be really entertaining like setting trap bolts on the ceiling and putting tornados on the floor, and watching the tornado send the enemy into the trap. cool!

i certainly didnt find the fighting tedious, but again, if the fighting is what's central to you in a game then bioshock probably isnt for you.

shit lol
i definitely gave up on it too soon, that actually does sound fun

Exactly. Bioshock, to me anyway, isn't designed for the average FPS fan who just wants to jump in and "run & gun" as it were.

And I also don't understand how the fighting was "tedious" - I found the combat anything but repetitive, and finding new ways to progress through areas was a ton of fun.

I haven't seen the level of depth and freedom to play how you want to that's in Bioshock since games like Fallout.

fallout?
ok i was ready to play again with an open mind but that makes me expect a lot

yeah i probably just didn't get far enough, idk

and for the record, the one really really tedious part involved me facing a big daddy, needing to kill it, and having not much of anything at my disposal, turrets were dead and everything, no money, only like 1 healthpack and not much ammo so i just reverted to fps mode and found a glitch in the ai. found a place where if i stood on a box the dude would run to the far side of the room, and up the ramp to the dock area then towards me. then, when i jump off the box, he rus back to the far side and down the ramp
so i'd jump on the box, wait till he got close-ish and fire a few shots, then jump down, wait till he got far away, reload, and do it again
:/
