Jon O'Bir appreciation thread

I think Jon O'Bir is one of the most talented yet underrated Dj's out there, his sets and productions are both top notch, and he has gone from nowhere to being a fairly big name in just a couple of years.

+1 jor o'bir is pretty good!

he's definitely the best 'standard trance' dj i've ever seen. i guess with the music he plays his track selection will never be truly exciting/innovative, but his consistency in creating a solid flow is second to none. i've not once heard a mixing fuckup from him either. really down-to-earth guy too.. it's a shame radio 1 & godskitchen dropped him

the simple reasons are that he plays trance though. It's such a dirty word here, when there's plenty of other genres which are really shit but are wanked over by the masses.

good dj, at least he didnt jump on the house genre band wagon like most former trance djs did.

Posted by chrisday on Sep-22-2007 16:32:

Used to be resident of Godskitchen... I haven't heard anything of his dji'ing of late. Seems to of gone off the scene? Someone mentioned to me he was involved in Godskitchen in other countries outside the UK.

Maybe the masses found out his real name.

yea o bir deff got talent
spins lots of tracks with good flow and good synths in the background
with alot of emotion behind them
not the standard stuff in todays trance with a catchy hook and the rest sucks

plus hes a cool guy
keep it up

i guess i shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but his remix of Louder is just a kick

yea just a kick
clean out ur ears
listen to the background
he got lots of stuff goin on
as well as his mix of autum

o'bir's quite good at what he does but his 'window' to dj-ing stardom closed a few years ago and it's unlikely to open again. shame.

I need a hint. it seems he just took the track from Amnesia and worked some knobs.

Bir is an amazing DJ. His tune selection is second to none as is the flow of his sets and imo they are the most important things. When you top it off with the fact his mixing is like a submarine door its a scandal he hasnt got as big as he should have

He's from Nottingham too you know.

I remember the days when he was on TA, fair play to him for getting far like he has. His track selection was good at the beginning as he played a lot of TA producers tracks and got bigtime exposure for Haak, Nickson etc. Nowadays though, I feel his track selection is getting a bit generic like all the big DJs.

Edit: Anyone have a link to that vid where he dropped the break of Xpander right on the dot of 12 midnight at a NYE party???

please go listen to ASOT.

Anyway I'm not too familiar with his dj'ing abilities but he's definitely a decent producer. Anyone would like to upload a set?

Great video that, aside from the rampant gayness of the man in the video

Its rare that one of the trance jocks does (or can do) something original like that vid. Made for a memorable New Years and one of 'those moments' that you dont forget that are sorely lacking in music thesedays.
